Nahi Sane is a Tifa group from Moordrecht, Netherlands, who have their roots in The Moluccas/Maluku (an island group in the east of Indonesia). The Tifa is a traditional Moluccan drum, which is used at special occasions, such as weddings and parties, but also at funerals. At all of the cultural expressions, like all the Moluccan dances, the Tifa has his central function. Until now, especially at the Moluccas, the Tifa is also used for communication, by beating certain types of rhythm in several villages or areas, the people know what is going on or what to do.
The members of Nahi Sane have learned playing the Tifa when they were kids. In most of the cases the Tifa is the first instrumant, as a child, that you learn to play. By watching the older generation playing the Tifa, the love of playing the Tifa kept growing at the members of Nahi Sane. Some of the members went back to their villages at the Mollucas to study playing the Tifa. After a number of a occasions some members from now, start talking uniting some young Tifa players to start a Tifa group, with the idea to stand our Moluccan culture and traditions. In the beginning of 2006 it was officially.
Nahi Sane means litteral "One Sound", translated from the original Moluccan language, the 'bahasa tanah'.
Beside the Tifa, also traditional instruments such as the Totobuang (who you can compare to the Indonesian 'Gamalan'), the Suling (traditional Moluccan flute), the Gong and the Kulit Bia (a shell) are played on.
Explanation of the numbers above in the 'player':
*Number 1 - Alifuru: Alifuru are the native/indigenous people who the Moluccan descend of, who are now mainly living at the Island Ceram at the Moluccas. The rhythm what we are playing on this song is the rhythm of the 'Tjakalele' dance, 'Dance of Warriors'.
*Number 2 - Maru: The rhythms what we are playing here, belongs to a dance called 'Maru' dance, who had been danced in the past after men came back from a war, nowere days only danced at special occasions.
*Number 3 - Soya: Soya is a village on the island Ambon at The Moluccas. In the past Soya was one of the last "official" kingdoms at the Moluccas. The rhythms who we are playing here is a typical Soya beat, what we learned from the Radja (mayor) of Soya. The melody on the Totobuang is written by our own Totobuang player. This song is an ode to (what ones was a Kingdom) Soya.
*Number 4 - Nahi Sane: The music who are played by Nahi Sane are traditional rhythms from the Moluccas, but also in some of the parts you can hear influences from modern music or rhythms from other nations. Like you can hear in this number, who (beside the other influences), basicly, has a very traditional Moluccan sound.
