Joshua (Tha J) Hunter is a native of Memphis TN but moved to Senatobia MS at the age of 8. (Tha J) was born June 2, 1979 to Mr. Frank Hunter and Mrs. Gloria Wilson aka (Simply Gloria). He has had a love for music every since his early childhood and he began to rap at the age of 8 listening to rappers such as RUN DMC, LL COOL J, RAKIM just to name a few. Even in Elementary School when teachers asked (Tha J) what do you want to be when you grow up? Joshua replied' a rapper. Then of course the teacher was probably expecting a different profession from him and she told him that rapping wasn't a profession to pursue. But obviously Joshua being his own person with his mind made up and his stubborness he would not let up on his dream. So all through school he insisted being a rapper was his career choice. Later he enrolled in the Batesville Job Corps Center to get an early start on life. He finished his education and also received a Retail Sales Diploma. After Job Corp (Tha J) moved from Mississippi back to Memphis Tn. to further his music career. While pursuing his music he also had to work for a living. At the age of eighteen he began to work in the warehouse field driving forklifts and later moving up to the mangement field which was not a bad move for someone that was used to real field work like the Tater Field & the Pea Field as (Tha J) would call it. By working in these different work fields it only made (Tha J) stronger and appreciate the values of life. The skills and knowledge that he gained from his work experience only enhanced his music career. He then met up with a rap artist by the name of King J.C which is the C.E.O of Playalistic Records. They joined together and recorded some of (Tha J's) music material back in 1997, which included albums such as King J.C & Tha J (Forever Ballin),( Still Ballin) and a host of other collaberations . In the beginning of 1999 (Tha J) & (King J.C.) departed and (Tha J) began his own record label in 2000 which was called HID N BLACK RECORDS along with Carlboo now C.E.O of (Posted Up Records.) Tha J released his first debut album in 2003 which was called (Everlasting Ghetto Bump) and in 2006 he released a Mississippi Mix Tape also. Some may ask how (Tha J)came up with the name (HID N BLACK RECORDS). His vision was the fact of being held back in the music biz because of the style of music which is a combination of 100% Crunk & 100% Clean music which he feels has been hidden for years in the Music Industry. And you also may ask how was (Tha J) able to keep his music Clean and Crunk at the same time? J 's response was in order to keep his music 100% Clean he had to stop using profanities for over a year expanding his vocabulary to the max. After completing this procedure his music has been clean every since along with his entire label. Tha J's music is greatly admired and can be listened to by many because there is no foul or explict words in his music. He has worked hard at releasing nothing but the best music and he has been successful at keepin his music 100% Clean & Crunk. Just to name a few (Tha J) has opened up for rappers such as (David Banner), (Twista), (Lil Wayne) and a host of other rappers .(Tha J) speaks of creating a new style of music something that the whole family can enjoy from toddlers to granny's. (Tha J) doesn't down play any other rappers by their stlye of music he's just trying to show the world a new style of music. My opinion of (Tha J) is that he truly is comitted to his work and his other artist on his label pushing them to the max to strive to be the best. So he bring to you artist like (Simply Gloria), (Big 6ix), (Ms.Nubyian), and (Ms.Sippi). Tha J is currently working on a new album coming Summer "07" Called (Mississippi 4 Life)...
