LA CUCARACHA COLOR SUNDAYS

If you enjoy these Sunday La Cucaracha comics and have seen them in the Houston Chronicle, please write to the HOUSTON CHRONICLE AND URGE THEM TO BRING BACK "LA CUCARACHA"-See blog message above, or just email [email protected] , and cc me at [email protected] or call them at 713-362-3222.

.
Please check out the sunday funnies this weekend for the Sit Down of Color. (Read the new blog post!)

I am writing about the comic strip 'La Cucaracha' by Chicano artist Lalo Alcaraz. Why was this strip cancelled? Was it cancelled out of the blue? It seems odd that you would just switch it up like that out of nowhere and replace it with a strip about...Penguins? Were there complaints or was the decision politically motivated?

I would think that dailies such as the Chronicle, with a large population of Latino readers, would welcome La Cuca with open arms, and celebrate Chicano artists like Mr. Alcaraz who are few in number, especially in the comic strip field. I would also think that the marketing potential would be substantial because not just any paper carries a strip like La Cuca.

But maybe I'm wrong. Does the Chronicle plan on staying progressive with its views as well as its comics or are we going to be subjected to reruns of Beetle Bailey from here on out? Please bring La Cucaracha back.

Sincerely,

J.R. (Name all disguised n stuff by me cuz I didn't ask permission yet)

My Interests

I am very interested in animation and have begun posting my animated shorts on the myspace tv area, accessible through that video link above. Please watch the stuff as it comes out, and give it a rating- crappy is better than 0% ratings, I guess.I have recently completed animation segments and a title credit sequence on an independent film, and am working on a series of pitches with a series of major television networks for a series of animated tv series.

I'd like to meet:

fans of La Cucaracha and anybody interested in immigrants rights and returning to the days of democracy in the United States.
