I am called San Gennaro to the Neapolitan people but sometimes known as Gennariello as well. My proper name from when I was living on earth was Januarius Caudinus Procolo and I was bron on May 1st, 276 in Benevento, Italy to the noble family of the Caudinii tribe whom were of Samnite descent. My mother came from Rome of the Januarii clan. Thus my name Januarius (Gennaro in Italian). My mother Tongue was Latin and I grew up under the Rule of the Emperor Diocletian. My father was a Magestrate to the city and very important. I had two sisters; Claudia and Eusebia. I always wanted to be a priest despite my fahter's wishes but he latter bent to them. I was ordained at the age of 16. I became a parish priest in Benevento untill I was asked to become bishop of Naples. I was 19 when I was ordained. I befriened Saint Juliana in Naples and Saints Deseridus and Festus who became my assistants. Saint Sossius was a friend from my studies in Nola, where I studied the priesthood. When I became 30, the Emperor Diocletian declared a presecution to Christians. It resulted in the death of thousands of Christians and mass murder in the streets. I helped hide and protect my Christians untill the Proconsul Timotheus imprisoned me for visiting my friends in prison. I was chastised for my beliefs and then placed in an oven alive. They thought I was dead
They thought wrong
I came out alive and in grand perfection. Out of rage the Proconsul had me sent to Pozzuoli to be eaten alive by bears in the ampitheathre. By the grace of God, the bears bowed to me. In rage, Timotheus had me executed in Solfatara, outside Pozzuoli, by decapitation. My death did not end my life. I protect Naples from Famine and plague as well as from Vesuvio. I am it's celestal protector given by the grace of God, and I will forever protect Naples untill the end of the world.....which will come.
There is a novel being written on my life by Jesus Anthony Báez. It is not yet in publication but news of its release shall be given in detail. Stay tuned!
