A little about me: I started in 1983 as a street DJ in Camden New Jersey 125miles away from N.Y city. I use to have garage party’s and rent buff halls so we could have DJ battles, brake dancing and pop locking contest. We would charge five dollars to get in. It was always packed. All the kids from all parts of the city even other towns would come out to see DJ battles. Our main DJ.’s were Tiny G ,MC Kid Gusto ,Cosmic "Strickly Skillz" Kev and Terrence T, DJ Cash Money , MC Marvelous , DJ Jazzy Jeff & MC Fresh Prince We started having such a large following that my partner Bryon paper Chase and I decided that we were going to be promoters. We took our homeboy DJ Cash Money & MC Marvelous and went to N.Y city, but let me tell you N.Y was not ready for us! But for those of you that were there, you know what I’m talking about. We started in the Boogie Down Bronx at club Zodiac. The way Cash Money set up his turn tables and mixer was different then. They had never seen it done like that before and everybody started laughing. But when he got on the wheels of steel the crowd went crazy they couldn’t believe that he was really cutting like that. They thought he was using a sampler or something. They checked out all of the equipment but when they realized it was all him they give him his props. But that was just the beginning, now we were all over promoting DJ & MC battles. We put together a company called Show Jazz Promotion which included Bryon Paper Chase, Big Lou Cummings, Big Scott Sheppeard and ofcourse me! We toured, renting high school gymnasiums and hotel ball rooms every weekend. Having DJ mixing battles and rappers from all over came to get on mic. Some became Big names like Cut Master D.C, Just Ice Schoolly D, LL Cool J , KRS 1 &DJ Scott Larock and our own DJ Cash Money, Marvelous, DJ Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince just to name a few. Our following grew larger and larger and we were growing out of the school gyms but we couldn’t afford the larger venues. So I asked my pop and his boy to invest $20,000.00 and they did .Show Jazz was promoting the first rap concert in the city of Camden. We made Don Uhler and Nate Banks SR partners and we promoted the hell out of that concert. We put 3000 fans inside Rutgers University. It was called the 1986 Super Fest, headlining the Beastie Boys, who were hot on the charts, with their single Hold IT Now Hit. Other performers that night were Cut Master DC, Schoolly D, Mantronics, Queen Latifah and LL Cool J, DJ Cash Money, MC Marvelous & Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince. The concert was a huge success and as hip-hop accelerated we accelerated. We were now promoting concerts and hip-hop & RB artist. For example, I picked up Erick B and Rakim’s first single Erick B for President and Check Out My Melody straight from the pressing plant. I went straight to radio station before they even had a copy of it. I have worked with, or for most of the biggest names in the hip hop industry. I have promoted some of largest Hip Hop concerts in coliseums like Philly vs. NY battle and the NBA allstar explosion in TX last year.2006.This year is about NEEDHIPHOP.NET! We are having the official Allstar Ole’School Bash in Las Vegas.Everyone, every city, has a hip hop story. We have all contributed to and supported the hip hop cause. From lp’s to cd’s. From t –shirts to sneakers...it’s all about hip hop. Hip hop is what we live.....rappers, dj’s and promoters are who we are.
