NEW YORK'S PRINCESS

About Me

ABOUT RUBY:
In 2004, at the young age of 15 Ruby got her first taste of "The Industry" helping out a DJ and various record labels through out Manhattan. Finally landing an internship at Def Jam Records. "I didn't even care that I wasn't getting a check from them, I was just enjoying the experience and perks" says Ruby looking back on the year and change she spent at the label. "It gave me a real a chance to see all that glitter ain't gold and this rap shit is mostly smoke and mirrors. Its a lot of ego inflated personalities, stress and bullshit you have to put up with and not everyone is built for it. But if you can handle it its definitely a blessing."
Slowly but surely, she began to realize not only was she built for the rap game, she was a natural. Easily writing 32 bars one night in the summer of 06' and spitting them the next day for her label mate City Boy she was shocked when he said he was impressed. "I don't even remember what made him ask me to write all them damn bars! All i know is the first 2 bars were 'Niggas look sideways like they wanna get clapped But the shottie will leave ya head without ya body attached' I spit it for a few more people and niggas said it was hard" But even after all of the positive reinforcement Ruby was still unsure. "I knew my style was more on some hood shit then most female rappers. I rapped about what I'd seen and did in the streets while alot of them focus on what they could do to a guy in the sheets. I dont knock it but since I'm still young if I rap about that touch me lick me stuff my only fan would be R. Kelly! I mean G shit is what I did and G shit is what I know, so of course its going to refect in my music... I just wasn't sure if people could relate to a GIRL talking about drug transactions and living life the ski mask way the same as if a nigga said the same exact shit I said."
Now its official! This cockey swagged South Side Jamaica, Queens native is ready to hold her own. Backed by some of the newest and/or most talented faces on BOTH the East and West Coast she's determined to make a respectful name for herself in this male dominated industry. "2007 is going to be a long year!" says Ruby "It seems like this rap shit is what I'm made for, I mean its the only thing that makes sense. If from day one you good at something you should stick to what you know and make a career out of it. I still got a lot of shit to learn and room for improvement, but trust me when I say RUBY GOT NEXT!!"

Influences: MY INFLUENCES:

Music always been a big part of my life, I grew up listening to straight Biggie, Pun and Jay-Z real New York shit and even Mase, Lost Boys and Method Man, so those are my main influences. On the female side of things Lil Kim, Eve, my sister Lore'l, Remy ma and Gail Gotti. As I got older I found myself listening to Eminem and 50 cent. Now if you check my ipod its nothing but Lil Wayne, Jeezy, Papoose and what ever catches my attention! I also go back in the crates and try to listen to as much old hip hop as possible I'm talking NWA, DJ Quik days...
My other 2 MAJOR influences are my GrandMa♥ who played mommy more then half of my life and my REAL niggas! Yall belived in my ass before I belived in myself and for that alone I owe ya a million! Thnx.
