Mariana Pais

Mariana Pais was born in 1984 in Lisbon, Portugal. At the age of 17 she went to study jazz guitar at the Hot Clube de Portugal, only at the age of 19 she started playing double bass, studying in the same jazz school (HCP). In 2004, after 4 months of intense and extremely fun playing both in a lot of jam sessions and in a lot of gigs arround the country, she goes to Holland. After beeing accepted in Amterdam, Den Haag and Rotterdam, she ends up choosing Rotterdam, where she spends two years among Jazz, Latin, Flamenco and Experimental Jazz. Meeting a lot of amazing musicians with whoms she improved her playing (MPB Group, B.R. Trio, Latin Ensemble, Mariana Pais 4tet, a lot of sessions and a lot jams). In 2006 and after carefull consideration, she moves to Amsterdam and starts studying at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where the playing around really beggins. Participating and playing with various groups (Dave Juarez Quintet, Mariana Pais 4tet, G.Trio, etc) and projects from other students(as well as her own) from diverses years in both conservatories. After finishing what she came for in Amsterdam, she will move back to Portugal, when the sun shines and the music flows. But the future is not yet here...and much more is, hopefully, yet to come..
