I am here for Friends

About Me

I live in TN again after spending several years in NY. I love my wife. I'm swell. I don't like to puke. I have a job. That's about it.

My Interests

I'm still a CD junkie. I still get a thrill out of going to a genuine record store and walking out with actual albums, not just digital files. Oddly enough, I don't even a CD player in my car; still getting plenty of use out of the tape player and my Tom Petty and Willie Nelson cassettes. I did finally crack and buy the wife an iPod for Christmas. I'm hardly what you'd consider a musician. I know a handful of guitar chords, but I played a mean trumpet back in middle/high school. Like most people I know, I'm an avid reader. Magazines, comics, blogs written by friends, biographies, a novel every once in a while. I've become something of a fitness/health freak. I gotta jog five times a week or I get crabby.

Music:

Take a deep breath: Tom Petty, Dylan, Johnny Cash, Willie, Waylon, Uncle Tupelo, Old 97s, Neko Case (anything on Bloodshot Records, for that matter), Dio, The Darkness, Weezer, George Harrison, Kristofferson, Son Volt, Cheap Trick, The Diabolical Biz Markie, Ryan Adams (when he's not being a prick), The Redwalls, Neil Young, The Shins, My Morning Jacket, Journey (but only with Steve Perry), Hall & Oates (hey, don't laugh), first three 'Tallica records, New Pornographers, Flogging Molly, Against Me!, The Byrds, Springsteen, Steve Earle, The Sounds, Dave Grohl, The White Stripes, Whiskeytown, Wilco, Los Straitjackets, the one and only Hank Williams, The Fucking Champs, Del Shannon, Asia (just for "Heat of the Moment"), Jim Lauderdale, Gram Parsons, Beck, Robbie Fulks, Ray Charles, Doug Sahm, Rick Nelson, Elvis (the King AND Costello), Roy Orbison, AC/DC, Run-DMC, Social Distortion, Them, The Supersuckers, the Nuggets box set and too many more to mention.

Movies:

Blues Brothers (the greatest of all time), Cannonball Run (or anything with Burt), X-Men 2, Superman 2 (Zod!!!), anything with Steve McQueen, The Goonies, Commando, Royal Tenenbaums, Almost Famous, The Big Lebowski, Project: Kill, The Warriors, Roadhouse, Police Academys with the sparkling wit of Steve Guttenberg

Television:

Anything on VH1 Classic, The Office (USA edition), 30 Rock (Genius! Watch it!), It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Magnum P.I., T.J. Hooker, Dexter's Laboratory, Undeclared, Freaks and Geeks, Cheers, Northern Exposure, Andy Griffith Show, Dukes of Hazzard, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, 1960s Batman, stupid cartoons from the 1980s

Books:

The Art of Hellboy by Mike Mignola, I Am One of You Forever by Fred Chappell, Father and Son by Larry Brown, Y: The Last Man by Brian K. Vaughan, The Goon by Eric Powell, anything by Lester Bangs, anything by Scott Morse, any FoxTrot or Bloom County collection, My Life by Burt Reynolds
