Painter Provocateur

About Me

Although I'm a college professor, and I do love teaching, the two most important things about me are my wife and being an artist.
I'm originally from New York but now I live in the Bay Area where I've have shown Jenkin's Johnson Gallery in San Francisco, Hang Gallery in San Francisco, and at the Elliott Fouts Gallery in Sacramento. (I also show at Klaudia Marr in Santa Fe, New Mexico.)
Although I actually think my work is rather tame, I am also considered to be controversial. My work has been censored by several galleries in San Francisco and Sacramento and features about this censorship run in the Sacramento Bee and the Oakland Tribune. (see these links for the articles)

My Interests

I've got a lot of far reaching interests. Obviously the firstand foremost is painting, I also really love art history and going to museums and galleries. I guess you might say I'm an art junkie, but I also love movies, books, and dogs. Any kind of movie except horror flick, which because I'm a sensitive sort, give me nightmares. Some of my favorite movies are the old film noir and detective movies and this is where I get a lot of my ideas.

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to meet other artists and people who love art, especially realist and visionary art like the stuff at the Shooting Gallery and the Forum Gallery. I'm also interested in meeting people who might be interested in sharing what they know about art and art history.

I love to read and one of my all time favorite books is, "Owen Meany," "A Winters Tale" by Mark Helprin. Lately I've really been getting into Walter Mosley's books, even the sci fi ones but I'll read just about anything from Jane Austen to Micky Spillane.
