About Me

I was born in Europe.
In 1995 I moved to the US where I currently live. I graduated from a Medical School with MD/DDS degree, and now I am working as a Dentist in San Diego.

I used to play an accordeon when I was at school, however I dropped it years ago. After I came to the US I wanted to play a woodwind instrument. I tried recorder, 6-hole transverse flute, crystal Hall flute, Chinese Dizi. But the sound that touched my heart was the sound of Japanese flute Shakuhachi. This is the instrument I am currently studying and playing.
Besides shakuhachi I play Native American flute, Xaphoon, Pocket Clarinet, Bawu, Duduk, Dan-Moi and couple other Jew Harps (Trumps), Didgeridoo, Udu drum and electronic keyboard Yamaha. However most of these instuments I use to create the background for my shakuhachi music, except Native American Flute, that I really enjoy playing solo.
I practice and teach Yoga and Martial arts as a way of life since 1983...

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Eugene (myself)
Shakuhachi (mostly)
Native American FLute
Yamaha Keyboard
Udu
Influences: All my shakuhachi career started with pieces of music by Riley Lee. I really like his style, and also I really like music by Anzan Hoshin and Masakazu Yoshizawa.
Riley's music also encouraged me to stady Didgeridoo and use it in my music. John Neptune was the one who introduced me to Udu (thought he he's usin a bamboo version of this drum) and Jew Harp.
I owe a lot to my teacher, Mary Lu Brandwein, who is teaching me Honkyoku in Kinko and Jin Nyodo tradition. I got a lot from my lessons with Peter Hill. I constantly learning a lot from other players I am playing with in a shakuhachi quartet.
Sounds Like: music for relxation and meditation SHAKUHACHI,
