" LISTEN " to my flute music, at ( http://www.myspace.com/winddancerflutemusic ) Hello...I am Roger McGee, a self taught artist, Sculptor and and maker of Native American flutes. ( www.wind-dancer-flutes.com ) Born in the Bayou country of South Louisiana in the small town of Kinder. It was a winding path that lead to my passion for the Native American Flute... As a professional sculptor for over 28 years I often found inspiration in the variety of music I listened to while sculpting. I was particularly captivated by the haunting tones of the Native American Flute. So I set out to learn as much as possible about the small instrument with the powerful voice. My plan was to make just one flute for myself, little did I know that my "flute journey" had just begun! I felt the culmination of all my passions harmonized; sculpting, wood work, leather work, wood burning, bead work, painting, music.....all found in this beautiful instrument, what more could one ask?" In my studio at "Wind Dancer Flutes" I create all my flutes by hand,using files, chisels and hand tools to shape the wood. All holes are burned in with a hot metal rod. The artwork, painting, wood burning and sculpture are done by free hand. As a sculptor I have had the privilege of creating four large outdoor Veteran Monuments. I am also a Veteran of the Viet Nam war. Happily married for 38 years. I now live in the beautiful land of Chief Joseph in North East Oregon where I create my art to share with the World.
