About Me

… Erik Karol, singer, author, composer, is endowed with an atypical and outstanding voice. He was born near Paris and began studying piano at the age of 8. By 16, while still in high school, he began his voice studies where he specialized in Baroque music and created a Parisian new wave rock band, Vie Privée. He performed, for the first time, on stage as well as made his first recording .........................................................Aft er the band split up, Erik went on to release his first two singles with Victoria Records/EMI . With the single « Partir », Erik received the Charles Cros Academy Award as well as an award for the best single of the year at the Festival International d' Expression Francaise in Bordeaux. Erik appeared in his first music video for his second single "Victoria", directed by Mike Japp................................... He went on to play Frederic Chopin (as character and singer) in Argentinian director Alfredo Aria's production "Les Romantiques" in Paris at the famous Théâtre du Châtelet................................. Erik continued to perform solo on stage in Paris and throughout France, and also released « Anneaux Marines », a poetry book................ He also collaborated on 3 projects : « Le Cabaret des Elements » (duet neo classical) with Eric Signor which led to the release of the CD « Chant d'Ether »…….......................... « Millenium Prophety », a duet electro-indie which premiered in New York City................................ « Chaosmose » a cyber opera by Juan Le Parc where he composed and interpreted the music in Paris.....................Erik’s career was further launched into the international arena when he joined the well known French Canadian company Cirque du Soleil in 1999. He was the original singer and main character for the Cirque du Soleil show, "Dralion" staged by Guy Caron touring 2 years in the US and Canada. A DVD was released live in San Francisco, and in 2001, "Dralion" was nominated at the « Grammies » in Los Angeles . The "Dralion" CD (BMG) has currently sold around 500,000 copies...................... In 2003, Erik was lead singer and character in Salto Natale's first show "Chamäleon" directed by Guy Caron in Zürich, Switzerland.......................... From 2004 to 2006, he rejoined Cirque du Soleil for 2 six months rotations with "Dralion" Europe highlighted by performances in London at the Royal Albert Hall for 2 months at the beginning of 2005........................……………… In the summer of 2006, He was hired " by the French film composer Bernard Becker for the soundtrack vocals of "Nuit Noire".........Erik presently is writing and co-producing his solo album spliting his time between Paris and Barcelona................................................... ........................................................ Erik looks tirelessly for new territories, for sounds and for textures to be invented or to be mimicked which will allow him to synthesize his voice (both Barytone and Counter tenor) with rock, classical and ethnic influences in order to create an intense,personal and hypnotic universe for his listeners.
