Showing my age here - All the stuff I recorded bass guitar on was done so long ago, they had this stuff called vinyl that used to play the tunes. As ancient as that sounds, technology today will allow the transfer from this strange medium, to CD, then to mp3, so I can upload here. In time, I will be rotating songs from the different bands I recorded with, specifically
The Cyclones - Played in group from 1979-1984. Featuring the critically acclaimed songwriting mastery of Donna Esposito, she later went on to star in Cowboy Spingirl, Toothpaste 2000, and is currently with Mas Rapido. She also added all the guitar and vocal tracks. On drums we had Dan Reich, who also played on the Mad Violets tunes with me. With the Cyclones, I recorded one single and one 4 song EP. The single "You're So Cool" was a local favorite and produced by still rockin' on the bass Dictator and multi-talented producer Andy(aka Adny) Shernoff.
The Mad Violets - Played in group in 1983. I was in an early incarnation of the group which featured the legendary Wendy Wild(Pulsallama, Das Furlines and more), and Dino Sorbello(Laughing Sky, Black Chameleons, now Tripwave). When the Cyclones were on a hiatus in 1983, Dan and I joined the group to record a few tunes. A couple ended up on compilation albums. Dan continued with the group, and they developed a nice following with the college crowd.
The Vines - Played in group 1986-87. Featuring the songwriting of Suzanne Lavine and Alirio Guerrero. It was interesting how I joined the group. There was an ad in the Village Voice for a bass player, something to the effect of "must play like Db's, Bongos, and Cyclones" so, I called them and said "I don't know about the Db's and Bongos stuff, but Cyclones style I should be able to handle". Anyway, we ended up recording a 6 song EP at Mitch Easter's Drive In studios with Jon Klages producing. I enjoyed recording it, and I think my best bass playing can be found on that record.
On the Marc - Studio only project in 1989. The name is just kind of a goof made up by my friend Bobby Ginsberg who played lead guitar on one of the tracks. The two songs were engineered and produced by Dave Saronson who has worked with many giants in the pop industry at his own Infinity Studios in Brooklyn. The songs need a little work, but it was my first attempt to record my own songs in a professional studio setting. Dave basically did most of the musical tracks, with the guitar solo by Bobby on the song Paradise. Ironically, the singer, who was paid a small fee to do the recordings on short notice, I do not even remember his name. Even though his group went on to get a recording contract. Oh well.
ENJOY!
