"Like Blood Like Honey" in Stores Now!

About Me

Known for her vocals on “Where’d You Go,” by Fort Minor, small town Wisconsin girl, Holly Brook, is a prolific singer, songwriter, and musician. At a time when most toddlers are speaking their first words, Holly was singing hers. At age six, she began to perform professionally with her mother. By 15, she had recorded three independent albums of folk and family music with her mother under the name Generations. By the time she reached high school, Holly was sneaking into nightclubs and befriending jazz musicians.
Moving to Los Angeles alone at age 17, she was determined to make her mark in the world of music. Only one year after her move, she was signed to Linkin Park’s label, Machine Shop/Warner Bros, in 2004. When Linkin Park’s front man Mike Shinoda began his side project, Fort Minor, it only made sense to have Holly be the female vocalist.
“One day, Mike called me up and asked if I would sing the hook on his song. I only spent about half an hour at the studio, and that was it.” She says, “I don’t think anyone knew the full potential of the song.”
As the song climbed the charts, Holly was propelled into a whirlwind: making her first music video, performing live on TRL and Jay Leno, touring the world, and ending the year with an MTV VMA for Ringtone of the Year. The song peaked on Billboard at 2, just under Shakira’s “Hips Don’t Lie.”
Simultaneously, Holly recorded her own album “Like Blood Like Honey,” which was released by Machine Shop/Warner Bros. in the summer of 2006. It’s not a musical approach one might expect from one of the first artists signed by hard rock kingpins Linkin Park. Organically produced, it is a mellow sepia-toned record laced with sweet, haunting melodic vocals over rich piano chords, cello, and no electric guitars to speak of. The album’s centerpiece is the cathartic ballad “What I Wouldn’t Give,” which is a hopeful song about wanting to get a fresh start in life. Grammy award winning producer, Jon Ingoldsby co-wrote many of the songs with her and produced the record.
Since 2006, Holly has been working extensively with singer/songwriter Duncan Sheik, whom she has been a fan of for over 7 years. From touring, to participating in his latest theatre projects, and more recently appearing as a featured vocalist on his upcoming record, it is proof that dreams really can come true.
Now Holly is writing and recording a new record, with plans for a release in 2008. Since the release of “Like Blood Like Honey,” Holly feels she has grown leaps and bounds as a songwriter and performer. “I was still searching for my own voice, and now I feel like I’ve finally struck the right chord.”
