About Me

Makin' up tunes and playin' and singin' with a band called the GET WELL CARDS. Quick bio: Used to play in a surf/psychedelic/garage rock'n'roll band called TEN FOOT FACES from '82–'87. We played Mosrite™s. Cool time, back then. Got to play shows with the likes of the BANGLES, CAMPER VAN BEETHOVEN, MEAT PUPPETS, FLAMING LIPS, REDD KROSS, fIREHOSE, GREEN ON RED, DREAM SYNDICATE, STEVE JONES, and just tons o' good bands. Lotsa gigs around LA/OC/SF. Toured. Released one full-length LP "Daze of Corndogs & YoYos" (Pitch-a-Tent/Rough Trade), a 7" EP (Independent Projects Records) and a couple of comps. After that played in CHROME-MOLY VIOLETS from '92–'96. Cool bands/bills to play on, including HAWKWIND, BEAT FARMERS, AGENT ORANGE, POPDEFECT, et al. Released a 7", a full-length CD and live comp with Flipside Records and a comp on Monkeyland. In '99 I joined the re-formed URINALS and got to rock on some more cool shows with X, DEVO, MIKE WATT, NELS CLINE, WEIRDOS, ADOLESCENTS, the NETWORK, et al. Released one full-length CD on Warning Label Records. Some of my last shows with 'em was in '05 — in BEIJING. Also played with HUMAN HANDS for a couple of years ('99-'01) during the URINALS. Feel fortunate to have had those experiences and adventures. So now, besides indulging in quirky, poppy, thematic, experimental, or whatever - and blindly messin' with recording this stuff, there's the GET WELL CARDS. The lineup includes drummer Chuck Larson (TEN FOOT FACES, PIMPS), guitarist Gary Riley (MYSTERY BAND, GROOVY REDNECKS), bassist Juan Gomez (HUMAN HANDS, ROMANS). And a (really) soon-to-be-posted page. So, what's up? More experiments in DIY recording. And the occasional gig. Someday a blog or two.

Band Members: These recordings are a solo project, so I'm indulging myself: guitar, bass, keys, vocals, midi legos, etc. GET WELL CARDS songs/recordings appear on their own page.
Influences: Dunno. I'm a sponge. As for people and their craft(s) I've admired, some have stuck and others have slipped away - though I may have dug heavily at some point. Anyway, here's a random list for kicks: Bill Evans, Murakami (Haruki), Wire, Bowie, Dylan, Ramones, The Who, Beatles, surf guitar instrumental, Buzzcocks, Neil Young, John Fante, Nick Cave, Debussy, Pogues, Meat Puppets, Wilco, Junior Brown, Sonic Youth, old scratchy Blues recordings, MC Escher, Dead Can Dance, Mott the Hoople, Ravel, Pixies, Rolling Stones, Brian Eno, Roxy Music, Minutemen, Mike Watt, Mr. Dali, Maddox Bros & Rose, Dave Brubeck, various Ambient stuff, Messiaen, Supergrass, 60's one-hit-wonders, Baroque in general, Tom Waits, X, Soft Boys, Robyn Hitchcock, Gene Vincent, Pink Floyd (especially Syd), Louis Armstrong, Can, Mr. Bukowski, Captain Beefheart, Clash, Kinks, Zeppelin, Elliot Smith, Sly & The Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, various pretentious prog rock, various unpretentious folk music around the globe, Edith Piaf, Blasters, Patsy Cline, GoGos, Scenic, Belle & Sebastian, Nino Rota, Scott Joplin, Eubie Blake and Ragtime in general, Paris Combo, Human Hands, Four Tops, 100 Flowers, Hank I & III, Cramps, Nilsson, old-timey country, Howlin' Wolf, J.S. Bach & some of his kin, Sex Pistols, Vivaldi, Ennio Morricone, Chuck Berry, Vince Guaraldi, Devo, etc......I don't know, man. Been discovering so much on MySpace that it's (YOU) all having an influence. Lately, I've been flippin' over the experimentalists - from classical to noise bands; chillin' with ambient stuff; gettin' into various ethnic folk stuff and instruments I'd never seen or heard before; diggin' on both older and contemporary country pickers along with new folkies; reigniting my love of surf & garage bands from Germany, Italy, Spain, whereever; really diggin' some of the new jazz ensembles; and eatin' up a lot of Japanese punk bands. I've also grown especially fond of all kinds o' French pop. It's fun. It's educational. It's....... check out my friends.
