Co.ffay is a Japanese jazz unit of the new generation formed in the summer of 2006 by Kohei OTA, a jazz drummer active in the Tokyo area.
Always pushing the limits artistically and creatively, Co.ffay has produced unique original material and has been regularly performing in clubs around Tokyo to wide acclaim.
They released their first album "Uzuneiro-Museum" (UZU RECORDS) in May 2007, a CD which was first conceived as a small musical museum with tunes as artworks on exhibit.
Co.ffay keeps things fresh by collaborating with unlikely cohorts like street dancers and bebop dancers.

Makoto Kadowaki is a pianist born in 1980, Tottori, Japan. He spent his teenage years playing the french horn and the piano, writing and arranging songs for a school concert band. After graduation of a local highschool, he moved to Tokyo to study at Tokyo College of Music majoring composition for industrial music. That was about when he began to perform various concerts and gigs as a pianist. Later he decided to quit the college and moved to Boston for further study for jazz performance. Graduated Berklee College of Music in 2005 with performance and jazz composition majors, he performed extensively in and out of Boston and NYC until came back to Japan in 2006.Lately he has formed his own piano trio dedicated to play mainly his original compositions, and the trio has been performing regularly in Tokyo.
NO2 is a trio band consist of Co.ffay’s young jazz musicians: Kohei Ota, drums, his younger brother Yuji Ota, guitar, and Naoto Nishikawa, organ. They mainly perform at jazz clubs in Tokyo and released “First Album†on July 25 from UZU RECORDS. Their performance enchants audiences with their closely-linked performance of their own and jazz standard compositions.
Kunpei Nakabayashi. Born in 1981. He joined a brass ensemble club as soon as he entered high school and he started playing wooden base. At the Student Jazz Festival ?a high school big band contest, he
won the 1st place two straight years. In university, he joined a Jazz study club. At a jazz contest in 2003, he won grand prix and best player awards. After graduation, he played with renowned musicians
such as Terumasa Hino. After moving to Tokyo in 2005, he performed as a member of Masahiro Sayama Trio, Isao Suzuki’s “OMA SOUNDâ€, and so on. His diverse musical activities also include hisown band consist only of three bassists and collaboration works with theater groups. His first album “Graffiti†was released in July 2008 from UZU RECORDS.
He started playing trumpet when he was 12 years old. After graduating from a university, he
achieved the grand prix award at the 23rd Asakusa Jazz Contest. In his own unit KARATETS, he performed at
Yokohama Jazz Competition in 2007 and received many awards. He joined the funk band
“Osaka Monorail†in 2003. Since he left the band in May 2006, he’s been a support member of
EGO-WRAPPIN'. His first CD was released in July 2008 from UZU RECORDS.
