I am here for Friends

About Me

it's official--i've been accepted into the Class of 2011 at the University of the District of Columbia School of Law. looks like i'm DC-bound this summer! it's scary, it's exciting, and it's awesome to be me sometimes.for those who don't know me,my name is jeremy. once upon a time i worked with homeless people who were addicted to drugs. this made me realize i wanted to change the world, so i signed up for the peace corps. they had me do their interviews, checkups, and essays before brushing me off in a rather pithy letter claiming my legal record (DUI in 1997) proves that i am immature and lack the responsibility needed to move to a foreign country and teach people to drink clean water. so i moved to hawaii and started working with people with HIV/AIDS, which i found to be the most rewarding job i've ever had. i decided while in hawaii that i really did want to go to law school and i took the entrance test. on the day heath ledger died, i was informed that i was accepted to law school.

My Interests

i am interested in making people more aware of the world around them, and their place in it. i am interested in getting people to realize that things like shopping at wal-mart and voting for republicans are not in the best interest of our families, our economy, or our planet.

I'd like to meet:

i would love to have a dinner with dorothy parker, alexandra fyodorovna, barack obama and tom ford. i would get gore vidal to dress up like rasputin and freak out alexandra, and while dorothy and barack engaged in a passionate conversation, tom and i would be making out under their feet.

Music:

on my mp3 player right now: gingerbread patriots, elliott smith, jack johnson, bright eyes, leiahdorus, the soundtrack to 'shortbus' and the killers.

Movies:

i like movies. it's a cliche, but 'brokeback mountain' is just about the most perfect film i have ever seen. and i have seen a lot of films-i am on the screening committee for the southwest gay and lesbian film festival in new mexico.

Television:

i no longer own a TV. you should try it.

Books:

i will read anything by (or have read everything written by) john steinbeck, douglas coupland, colm toibin, michael cunningham, michael chabon, chuck palahniuk, and kurt vonnegut; don't miss etgar keret's 'the bus driver who wanted to be god' and 'JesusLand' by julia scheeres. you should read all of these books instead of watching tv. because, seriously, is 'skating with american idol' really going to do anything postive for your brain?

Heroes:

Anna Politkovskaya, who gave up bodyguards and just wanted to publish the truth, and Lt. Ehren Watada, who refused to fight in a war that is not, and never will be, justified.

My Blog

Can I have a moment?

(This started out as a bulletin I was posting in reference to the sudden, death-inspired canonization of Anna Nicole Smith. I figured it would do better as a blog. Enjoy!) Before we start demanding th...
