About Me
Born in ostend, Belgium, and raised in a small town , Filip began started to lisen to Without Walls Michael Sembello,New Order - Blue Monday ,Music from Haim Saban Shuki Levy "Citys of Gold Cartoon" and Kraftwerk at the age of 12.
At the beginning of 1987 he was a party freaker and Dj and his interest for the electronic sound increased with the apparition of New Beat in Belgium. At this time he started to buy records and " flashed" on Future Sound of London LFO 808 State , ElectroBeat Records Miami,Mackenzie Records and Underground Resistance.
In 1993 he decided to throw parties called " U.F.O " at different clubs in the west of Belgium to pursue hard acid
and PCP Frankfurt music
Filip was a frequent traveler to London and in 1994 he made a visit to London (UK) , where he met the Outcast Clan and worked in their Studios to make his first acid track. He also played his first international Vdd Energise sets at TurnMills & Limelight (London, UK) at the infamous Eurobeat 2000 club nights during that time.
. After visting same eletronic dance festivals, he began recording more of his own tracks . In 1995 he was signed to Ufo Records London and Drop Bass Network Records, a milwaukee based independent acid label. His second release Belgium Frites under the Monniker Vdd Energise , (1995 ),.was done..it was played by Aphex twin for years...
The concept of the EP had links to scenes of the movie 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'
Than Polygram (France) contacted Filip for an exclusive Vdd Energise track which was released on their 'Techno Trash Car' compilation.
Then he moved to Detroit to pursue his softer electronic alter ego, Dj Valium, and released his new style on the detroit based Teknotika Records.
Tropical ep - Massa ep and Gothic Ep ...
Tracks from these EP's were appearing on compilations of Dave Clark , Adam x ,Harthouse Uk Recordings and australian Dj HMC
Then some bad news, Filips house burned down. Luckily Mad Mike ,Gary Martin and some local friends in Belgium sent all of 's filips demo's back so a lot of unreleased tunes where saved.
Following releases where on Droucht records sublabel Sativea ,Reload Records and Diki Records Belgium ( Gary Martin Remix ) - Tracks where appearing on I Love Techno Compilation , Lagoa Cd ...
Not a man to be kept down, Filip carried on working on the music he loved and more releases were soon to follow. 1998 saw the release of "Territorial Conflicts" on KK records-a very politically inspired vinyl release.
It featured f.e. a techno-elektro track with a bbc radio 1 interview from a journalist covering the Gulf war in Iraq.
The other tracks on the ep were f.e.a a electro techno track cald Topgun and a track with a sample from John Carpenter's movie "Escape from New-York". the follow on from this was National geographic album and this ended up in the top 10 playlist of Sven Vath and Laurent Garnier.
In 1999 Filip signed at International Dj Gigolos Records to pursue his concepts like Deepfrozen Technology and The Art of Misdirection , . Valyom presented his new album-material "Art of misdirection" (on Gigolo), live at the "I Love Techno" festival 2000 in gent/belgium, right between the sets of Jeff Mills and DJ Hell, in front of 8.000 people visiting the room. It was the first live set he ever agreed to do! "Art of Misdirection" is a concept album on different levels :Valyom creates connections of text, language and music as Sir David Attenborough talks about fish in the red sea. He uses the concept of film scores and explores the human brain and it's workings. It's a story of man and machine, of discovery on the level of Edison's when he invented the lightbulb.. Jeff Mills already pursued similar visions with his "Tomorrow" series or in the forum on the Axis Records website. The "Art of misdirection" is collected on a double 12 inch and cd..
Appearing on Gigolo compilation 4 ,6 and Best of International dj Gigolos cd compilation....
The name Dj Valium was officialy trademarked by
The Benelux Office for Intellectual Property (BOIP)

"For me it's not only about producing electronic dancemusic but also trying portraying my personal philosophical dilemma with a wink to the eighties, such as portraying deep sea diving in the red sea, a buddhist ceremony, hallucinating at 35degrees, a chase and other concepts.
