About Me
Well, here we are...again...we play the blues and drink coffee. We like to play the blues while we drink coffee. One of us has a chronic inability to remember people's names and faces...If you actually know us, then you know who we are...but here are the hints...we play blues/rock, we have a crossed calvary sword symbol for our band... our band name implies more people then two...that is all the hints for now...Oh, okay, one more hint...we are...The Pack...I guess that's not really a hint....We're a Canadian band based in Vancouver, B.C....by the way, if you actually want to be our "friend", then you will send a msg. along with your friend request mentioning that you know full well that we are The Pack. If you don't, then clearly you did not take the time to fully read our page. If you're just looking to pump up your friend numbers - ya came to the wrong gals.
THE PACK – Short Bio
The Pack is a duo. But do not expect a stripped down drum and guitar outfit. The Pack is two women. But do not expect “girly†music. The Pack blends traditional blues and rock, with the focus on rhythm guitar, solid drum lines and singing straight from the gut.
"Holding the torch high in today's garage rock revival, Vancouver duo The Pack strike with a raw, hell-torn, blues-rock swagger that is equally contemplative and unflinching"...Marty Rollins, The Approach
The Pack has enjoyed consistent rotation on Vancouver radio station CiTR 101.9 FM, ever since their performance at CiTR’s Shindig 2006, where they made it to the semi-finals. As well, CBC Radio 3, has them in heavy rotation. The preview copy of their album has also landed consistently on CiTR’s charts, hitting No. 1 the week of Jan 16, 2007 and Mar. 27, 2007. They have been mentioned favourably in Discorder Magazine and had their self released 5 song EP “Hardtackâ€, well reviewed by online music magazine, Meg-A Music Toronto. Recently, they were featured in Ion Magazine and interviewed for the April 2007 issue of Nerve Magazine and the July 2007 issue of Discorder. Just in, a great review of Tintype in The Province Newspaper this July and in !earshot Magazine this August.

WHAT THE PRESS HAS TO SAY...
(Tintype is) One of
the best local releases of the year by far...Live, these two women growl like a hellhound on the trail of a runaway sinner.
--Stuart Derdeyn (The Province) JULY, AUG 07
Tintype is a triumph. Good in the morning, good at night. This is the shit.
--Dave Bertrand (Nerve Magazine) MAY 07
When you hear their signature blend of smoky vocals, chugging rhythms
and buzzsaw guitar, it's not only hard to believe that they're just a
duo, but that they've only been playing together as a band for only a
year…and they have been taking Vancouver by storm, one gig at a time.
--Mike Chilton (Discorder Magazine) JULY 07
A guitar-drum howling-blues duo, Becky Black and Maya Miller of the
Pack are clearly meant to play together...The whole beautiful mess (of Tintype) will have
uptown turkeys running in terror back to their Eric Clapton "blues"
CDs.
--Adrian Mack (The Georgia Straight) AUG 07
Becky Black (vocals, guitar) and Maya Miller (drums) quite simply have 'it.'
…they rock like fuck and are currently taking Vancouver by the balls, wowing all that catch their devastating live shows. The Pack, we love you, and hope it's not so long before large swathes of this planet feels likewise.
--David Morrison JULY 07
Seeing 400+ jaws drop and hit the floor and watching all those people seeing what music with compassion and conviction can really do to your ears and eyes was like watching the birth of my first child, except not as messy and with less screaming. If you get a chance to see The PACK, don't screw yourself over by missing out, just go. Within the first verse, you'll know what I mean. These girls are not screwing around.
--Jay Chetwynd (Smokin' Entertainment) JULY 07
The real highlight of the show however - and it renews my faith in music fans that so many people were genuinely stoked on them - was The Pack. It's nice that these two girls were able to blow so many people's minds. I was expecting much of the audience to be deterred by a blues duo amongst these other bands, but it's a credit to their talent and musicianship that anyone who didn't already like The Pack was a convert by the end of their set. Just awesome....The Pack are a tough act to follow....
--Simon Illrote (Richard's on Richards Live review - Nerve Magazine) AUG 07
A highly caffeinated blues/rock duo formed from the hammer of the gods and sent here to remind us just how good the blues can make us feel...Their latest release, the smooth rockin’ Tintype, has enough oomph to send even the squarest music fan sprinting down to the crossroads to do some bartering with the devil...Listening to 'Tintype' I hear the smoother moments of Hendrix, Jon Spencer sprinkled with the depth of Zeppelin, a less angry/more soulful Babes in Toyland, White Stripes with a drummer that can actually play, and even Hole ...No matter how overdone a genre appears to be, truly talented artists always come along to make it new yet again. Black and Miller are two such artists, and our sleepy little scene should be thankful.
--RC Joseph (24 Hours) APR 07
Pounding and wailing their way through 17 incendiary tracks, this Vancouver, BC alt/blues/garage duo tame the noise and send it back into the wild, jumping off a platform of roots blues and landing in a heavy barrel of low-fi rock. They wrench out a huge amount of sound, favoring dense guitar tones and stomping drum beats that are
persistent but not overwrought. The vocals clear the way, acting as a third instrument that is alternately comfortable with a lullaby or a full on scream. The lyrics echo the sentiments of the music perfectly, being initially straight ahead but delving much deeper as the songs progress. It's this concept that proves this is much more than just blues riffs with feedback. The songs are decidedly modern, with unassuming riffs that are jaggedly melodic. On "This Terror," Becky Black seethes through her teeth: "This terror tastes like coffee/ Can I have another cup?" That line alone makes this worth checking out.
-- Brad Bush (CD Baby) APR 07
Some say that Becky Black's guitar pick is actually the Devil's toenail. We don't know where The Pack got their dark gifts, we're just trying to stay on their good side.
--Claire Kenny (Urban Trendz) MAR 07
The nicest ladies in rock n' roll--Kelly (CiTR) MAR 07
Singer/guitarist Becky Black is proof why coffee, cigarettes and Pabst Blue Ribbon are good for you. She’s Vancouver’s own Janis Joplin (serious!). I’ve been in a jam space with these two, seen Becky cut loose, screaming her bluesy drunken soul to pieces, and it blew my heart out...
By comparison, Maya Miller isn’t the wildest drummer ever, but you’d be a fool! Handling the Pack’s organizin’, she’s one of the more intelligent, genuine, talkative, and inviting human beings I’ve met. And also – somewhat oddly – the band’s lyricist...
There’s only two of them, they’re schooled in the hard-ass blues of Blind Willie Johnson and Junior Kimbrough, they play a White Stripes/Black Keys kinda thing, and know what? I wish more girls tore the roof off the place.
--Dave Bertrand (Nerve Magazine) APR 07
