Richard Ross is a man of his own time. He was certainly never born for our time, in fact Richard is a cross breed of Nick Drake and Django Reinhardt, a beautiful amalgamation of early Latin American crooners and a sincerity even James Taylor could not possess. Richard's acoustic songs are heartbroken and yearn for a sympathetic ear. His guitar playing is immaculate and effortless to say the least, and you can hear his homage to Nick Drake often in his delivery. His style is extremely imaginative, often being described as a fusion of jazz, folk and gypsy with an even spice of world music thrown in. However Richard's influence would knock you over, everything from Eric Satire, Tori Amos, Leonard Cohen, Nirvana to The Czars, Radiohead and even Louie Armstrong and the swinging jazz era, not to mention a strong love for early Memphis blues singers.
It is a rare treat to find a singer/songster such as Ross in these times. Richard's innovative approach to composition and lyrics are also mysteriously romantic. "This is for those who escape to the tinkling bars on a Friday night...for those who are wanting, the not wanting and those moving away." "To the sun that wins the war of the morning and the death of the night before, for nobody but the ages."Audiences respond to Richard's music as eccentric, beautiful and always emotive, and it is clear that a sensitive and compassionate soul dwells in this evocative performer who often strives for perfection with complete integrity.
Richard's album will be released sometime next year.
