Michael Flanagan was born in Boston in 1984. Raised in Brockton Ma, he started playing sax at age 10 and piano at age 14. He began performing professionally at age 16 and teaching privately at age 18. In his early high school years, he studied privately under his mentors Yasko Kubota and Jerry Bergonzi. He entered Berklee College of Music on a talent based scholarship in September 2003. During his time at Berklee, he had the opportunity to study with Hal Crook, George Garzone, and Billy Pierce. In 2007 he graduated with a Bachelors degree in Music Education. Michael has performed throughout the U.S. and Japan at countless venues. He has been fortunate enough to share the stage with Donald Harrison, George Garzone, Tiger Okoshi and many more. The Mike Flanagan Group includes a number of professional musicians who perform and have performed professionally all over the world. With Yasko Kubota (piano), Archie Kubota (bass), and Fabio Pirozzolo (drums) as the rhythm section, every show is full of surprises! The group currently performs throughout Massachusetts at various venues. The band has had many wonderful musicians perform with them including: Terri Lyne Carrington, Joanne Brackeen, Bob Moses, Andre Hayward, Esperanza Spalding and many more. Special guests (most include Ron Murphy, Michael Corayer, Ron Mahdi, Nick Falk, Christian Scott, Jason Palmer, Jeff Galindo and many more. This group thrills every stage they play with their eclectic repertoire of music including styles in traditional and contemporary jazz, pop, R&B, top 40, soul, rock, blues, and even hip hop.
