The Yardwise family formed in 2003 in Wellington, NZ’s reggae capital. Consisting of 4 key players from Wellington’s reggae music community, they originally met at Radio Active 89FM’s Roots and Culture reggae show (one of the country’s longest running reggae radio shows - recently celebrating 25 years of reggae broadcast!).Sharing a keen interest to spread further their selection of conscious uplifting tunes and vibes, the crew began running the events called Inna Yardwise Session (‘Yard’ being a term used in reggae dancehall music meaning home). These regular Yardwise parties quickly became established as the foremost Reggae Dancehall night in the capital.Alongside MCs Krthnak, Jhan and the Mighty Asterix, the crew consistently bring a diverse range of the best Reggae Dancehall music direct to the people. The combined talent and experience of the crew make it a memorable night every time.‘We try to incorporate as many live elements as we can to make the experience exciting, original, fun and attention-keeping for the audience. Alongside the traditional DJ setup of two turntables and a mixer, we incorporate a Sampler which we use to play stings, vocals samples and sound effects. We also incorporate a live delay/reverb unit which is particularly useful in dubbing tracks out, enhancing vocalists and sound effects’Playing the best in classic Roots Reggae, Dancehall, Bashment and Contemporary Roots, the crew have worked with a multitude of vocalists, from experienced and legendary figures in Aotearoa Reggae such as Sister Jules Issa and The Mighty Asterix, to fresh upcoming talent emerging from the capital such as MC Ras Stone, MC Mr. T, and Angela Graham.Collaborations with other crews and DJs at these events include Ruffneck Souljah, Steppa D (UK), JP Money (Jamaica) and Conviction Roots (UK).BIGUP!!
