Born in the back woods of Red Bay, AL, my earliest musical remembrances are, at 5 years old, of standing in the kitchen playing a frying pan like a guitar. But at 9, when I saw my uncle in a rockabilly band doing "Ring of Fire", I knew what I wanted to do. In fact, he gave me my first guitar - a Silvertone arch top with a broken neck. It was barely playable, but I used it.

My first band came together when I was 14, with the bass player's dad driving us to our gigs. I was gigging every week by 17, and sleeping through Geometry class every day (I don't recommend this - I didn't do so good).

At 18, life had me living in Baie Comeau, a gorgeous little town in Quebec, Canada and putting together a Southern rock band with some great English Canadian guys. The French Canadians seemed to like it, though they couldn't understand many of the lyrics. Canadians - great people, fun country. I love you guys!

Since then, my evolutionary musical path took me from The Chromatics (punk) playing around the Shoals area, to bands in the Tampa Bay and Dallas areas (more punk and pop/rock), and back to the Shoals. My own group, Winnow, formed in 2000, played, lost our drummer, and went into the freezer when Ledbetter came along in 2004. Ledbetter has succeeded in bringing me back to my roots and to new places in its freestyle jamming within a great song context. I still write and record my own musical meanderings, soon to be foisted upon the world in the obligatory side project.

Favorite proverb: "Where there is no oxen, the stall is clean."
Meaning: The ox represents strength, but in a clean stall there won't be any strength. With strength comes sweat, pee, poop, bad smells, but if you want an orderly, clean existence without those things, don't expect any power and life there.Special Thanks

My First Song Post

Life is good, life is full - too full sometimes.  I finally sat down long enough to change my picture (no, I'm not naked, but it is summertime) and put up some music.  Slavehouse Door is one...
