Music and daydreaming, lots of daydreaming, translating poetry, Dynasty Warriors video games (because a lady needs to kick butt every once in a while, after all...), geography, landscapes, sceneries from all over the world and different cultures (I fell in love with Eastern Europe, among many other places), photography, art (Frida Kahlo obviously being a favourite), flamenco dancing, glass painting, blowing huge soap bubbles and pursuing wisdom all at the same time, the wonderful, poetic absurdity of "engrish"
and, on a good day, er, the wonderful, poetic absurdity of life as well (wishful thinking, really!)... As a native French speaker, Jean-Claude Van Damme interviews are always an endless source of (sarcastic) mirth, too. I have a wonderful connection with nearly all animals (daddy-long-legs are not a big hit with me, though. The flying kind, that is, not the terrestrial kind ).
I enjoy a different take on life, interesting contrasts and discrepancies...
(Thanks Shannon for this one!)
I'd like to meet:
Hmm, all sorts of interesting people, I guess. I know who I don't want to meet, though... There's one thing I appreciate, still : getting a little message along with a request, so people can get to know each other a little bit. Old-fashioned, I'm telling you... That also means loyal and supportive to my friends, so it's worth a try...
Music:
16Horsepower and Woven Hand, Catpower, Tom Waits, (early) Tori Amos, Nick Cave, The Birthday Party, Radiohead, The Willard Grant Conspiracy, Noir Desir, Theo Hakola, Will Oldham (we share our birthdays... different year, though), the Gun Club, The Dirty Three, Kurt Weill, Tricky, NoMeansNo, The Exploited for the sheer angry energy of their music (That's right, The Exploited. Got a problem with that?), Neil Hannon's wonderful voice, Klezmer and gypsy music, amongst many others...
Now for the bands you wouldn't necessarily expect: Madness, a bit of the Beastie Boys, Babes in Toyland, a bit of Lady Sovereign, L7's first few albums... and classical composer Sergei Prokofiev. If you love Woven Hand as much as we "horse-heads" do, please visit http://www.wovenhand.info/index.html
Movies:
As long as it's not a Hollywood blockbuster, I'll give it a try. Zhang Yimou's movies (Hero, Not one less...)
If Lili Taylor's in it, chances are I'll watch it (Arizona Dream or I shot Andy Warhol) ... Other than that: FESTEN (anyone remembers it?), Big Fish, Spinal Tap, Welcome to Collinwood and I can't think of any others at the moment...
Television:
Scrubs (and this enlightening quote from Dr Cox: "Sweetheart, people ain't chocolates. You wanna know what they are, mostly? They're bastards. Bastard-coated bastards with a bastard filling"), Father Ted, Scrubs, Scrubs and more Scrubs. Lots of documentaries. For some reason, "Putin's mama" is among those that had quite an impact on me.
Books:
Anything by Barbara Kingsolver -Prodigal Summer is an all-time favourite. Cormac Mc Carthy, Carson Mc Cullers, Faulkner, Steinbeck, Cavedweller by Dorothy Allison...
Raymond Queneau, Marguerite Yourcenar, Paul Claudel, PG Wodehouse every now and then...
The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, any good book about the contemporary history of China and the cultural revolution in particular (Jung Chang's Wild Swans, Da Chen's Colors of the mountain... ). Currently reading Jung Chang's Mao, The unknown story.
Gary Larson's brilliant comics...
And many more...
Heroes:
Not sure yet... But I'd go for Tom Waits, for his mind-blowing, uncompromising creativity and sense of humour.
And this little guy too... The hero of my childhood...I'll let John Lennon answer for me: "Everybody seems to think that I am lazy / I don't care, I think they're crazy"
