Mitja Prinz

mitja prinz is born and lives in west berlin where he started his dj career playing hiphop at the age of 13. back at that time mitja learned his trade frequently playing school parties and weddings. then in 1989 he got his first proper club gigs and started to organise his own parties. he soon became famous all over berlin and the former GDR. then in 1993 due to the growing violence in the hiphop scene he switched from hiphop to house music. in 1994 mitja gained his first residency at berlin’s legendary tresor club. until 1998 he built his formidable reputation as the "marathon dj" by playing sets lasting 13 hours and longer. during that time he met his friend and former dj partner dixon with whom he hosted the ground breaking house night "audiovideodisco" at wmf club. in 1997 mitja prinz was the only dj who had residencies at all the important electronic music clubs in berlin: tresor, wmf and e-werk. but spinning records and organising parties just was not enough. as the next logical step mitja released his first mix cd on tresor records in 1998 – an international bestseller. soon other mix compilations followed on blaou and wmf records. he also released his own productions and remixes on blaou, tresor, wmf, loaded, draft and toktokrec. since the mid nineties mitja transmits his definition of house sound with gigs all over europe, both americas and even deep into siberia. since 2005 mitja hosts the night "yesbutnobutyes" in various berlin locations featuring djs such as james lavelle, carl craig, david holmes and many more.since dec 2006 mitja is continuing his night alone at club watergate once a month,with same quality(feat.james lavelle,radioslave, joakim,audiofly,craig richards,eddie richards,howie b...) under the new name YES!. recently mitja is back in the studio working on new material … so stay tuned for the results.
