Wilderness EP Part 1Nach dem großen Erfolg der Debüt „Fog & Frogs EP“ veröffentlichen The Cheapers nun ihre zweite EP auf Upon You Records. Wilderness Part 1 stellt dabei den ersten Teil von zwei geplanten Maxis dar, in der uns Ruede Hagelstein und Fraenzen Texas ihr verqueres Kopfkino vorstellen. Los geht’s mit „Bedrock“ - ein Stück in dem die beiden die Cheap Mountains auf dem Dreirad erklimmen und dabei den Aufstieg, den Blick vom Plateau und den rasanten Abstieg ins Tal der Geflashten abfeiern. Sie erkunden mit uns ihre dunklen Höhlen auf B2, in denen sie sich von Quanten-Echos und Feedback-Schleifen ernähren. Sie heben schwarze Löcher aus die man nur im Dunkeln schmecken kann und steigen von den höchsten Wipfeln der Blasphemie herab in die Untiefen der elektronisch verzerrten Weltanschauung von morgen.

After the big success of their debut “Fog + Frogs EP", the cheapers are releasing their second EP on Upon You Records. Wilderness Part 1 is meant to be one part of two planed maxis in which Ruede Hagelstein and Fraenzen Texas introduce us to their quirly head-cinema. It all starts with “Bedrock"- a piece in which the two crest the cheap mountains with their tricycle serving the rise into the valley of the flashed. They explore with us the dark caves on B2, in which they nourish from quantinum echoes and feedback loops. They dig deep holes that one can only taste in the dark and descend from the highest tree top of blasphemy in the shallow blurred electronic ideology of tomorrow.

Debug (GER): “Keine Frage, Upon You ist mittlerweile zu einer Referenzgröße in der Plattentasche geworden. Und die neuen Track von The Cheapers setzen genau da an. Bei dieser Sicherheit die man auf einem Label hat, das eh nur Hits macht. Sehr relaxt geht das fast glöckchenhaft schimmernde "Bedrock" an den Start und lässt mit einer unglaublichen Präzision langsam die Dubs explodieren, bleibt dabei aber immer sehr sanft und ravt aus einem inneren Glühen heraus. So klänge das, wenn man Lawrence mit Carl Craig kreuzen würde. Die Rückseite, "Caves", ist abstrakter und an manchen Stellen fast verwirrend dubbig, aber funktioniert ebenso aus der Hinterhand. Extrem lässige Platte. bleed•••••”
Groove Mag (GER): “Musik ohne Geschmacksverstärker, ohne auch nur ansatzweise in die Nähe von Reizüberflutung zu geraten. Das ist selten, denn auch Minimal weiß, wie durch aufgebrezelte Bassfrequenzen oder mit der x-ten Kopie eines einmal erfolgreichen Konzepts über Ideenlosigkeit hinweggetäuscht werden kann. All das brauchen die Cheapers nicht, denn sie haben eine gut gefüllte Ideenschatzkiste und Mut zur Selbstbeschränkung.”

The Upon You 006 is the birth hour of the Berlin duo Fraenzen Texas and Ruede Hagelstein. Knowing each other since early childhood they started their dj career together in Berlin. By now they are resident dj’s in the Watergate Club and the two build their studio into the epicentre of the Upon You empire, so it is not surprising that the cheapers has become the first own label-act. Related to the style of their dj sets that they prefer to play in ping-pong fashion, the Fog & Frogs E.P. is focusing on the contrast between dark shallows, hypnotic currents and enlightening moments full of fantasies and plenty of inanities. Two tracks that stand for the amplitude of their future productions.

De:Bug (GER): “Very strong in it‘s grooves and sounds- the new Upon You from Fraenzen Texas and Ruede Hagelstein. They develope a very playful tension with peculiar rave-effects, securely driving towards an almost emotional break. I like the Backside with it‘s stepper-groove and the backround of smooth frogcrackles a little more because of it‘s ‘plonkering‘ funk elements where one gets the feeling noone is thinking about the label minus but more about the rest jazz that is still in it after many made nights. ”
Groove (GER): “The two apprecheated berlin dj‘s and producers Ruede Hagelstein and Fraenzen Texas, sometimes like it cheap in the Bar 25 on a sunday morning, but not on their label- homebase Upon You. „Fog is a distracting, floating minimal-jack-track, with a mean baseline and sirenes that either leads out of the k-hole or will lead you into the next. „Frog“ comes a little less brushed out of the minimal and takes you with it‘s dry drums on a wild ride through sundry sound-landscapes (an inclusive Tricky Disco loan), just to spit you out on a monday afternoon- if everything turns out good. ”
