Iana’s musical career began at the early of 6 years when she studied at
the “Conservatori Superior de Música de Barcelona†making her first gigs
on the music scene at the Liceu Theatre in Barcelona with a children
chorus.
Between then and now Iana picked up a Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising
and Public Relations, spent a few years working for agencies in New York
and Barcelona, before finding herself immersed in music once again as
resident DJ and instigator of the infamous DC10 carry-on’s at the Ibiza
underground sensation of 2002 - Pin-Up.
Her deep, electronic, irreverent and obscure sets were the perfect
antidote to a full day of DC10 and her instant popularity carried her
across the island that summer with spots at Space, Pacha, Underground,
Bambuddha Grove, Es Vive, La Diosa basically any place with a dancefloor
and a few others besides. Returning every summer since, Iana has been a
preferred guest of What’s Up at Space Ibiza as well as being included on
their international roster alongside Mr C, Nano Vergel and Pascal Feos
and other highly regarded minimal techno artists.
Back in Barcelona Iana has been a regular of the likes of
Danzatoria/Catwalk, La Terraza/ Fellini, and City Hall, and her DJ sets
have been in demand from as far afield as Berlin, Prague, New York and
Lisbon in clubs like Tresor, Watergate and Twilo among other big ones. She has 2 years of Miami Music Conference gigs under her belt
and has appeared at a range of festivals including Electrosplash
(Castellón-Spain), B-Festival (Vitoria-Spain), Explum (Murcia-Spain) as
well as Le Rachdingue, Industrial Copera, Metro Dance Club closer to home. Currently her monthly residencies
include Club Fellini and Lolita at The Loft.
Taking off the headphones briefly Iana was in charge of the techno and
minimal section at Codigo Records Distribution before moving to her
present position at Regular Label where she was in charge since last year of bookings and
the label’s upcoming 5th Anniversary Tour. www.regularlabel.com
As if that wasn’t all enough, the project closest to Iana’s heart is the
non-profit organization DJ’s Contra La Fam
www.djsagainsthunger.org. It started with an electronic music festival and still managed by her which is now
in its 3rd year. DJCF focuses ..ing those that need it most through
music and art. So far festivals have been held in a disused convent
(Sept 2005) and a public market place (Oct 2006) with great success.
Djs Against Hunger is right now a full no profit organization promoting
also other projects like P.A.C.A.S. (free workshops on djing, music
prduction and cinema, www.pacas.es) or the art organization MateriActiva
(www.materiactiva.net), an artist collective promoting various projects
including Green Box Sessions, a silent dance floor finalist in Green
Space Heineken 2005 where she also played, and Femelek (that started March 2006 up to now) an
all female electronic music festival, which culminated in a closing
party at Club Fellini where she now holds her residency.
A versatile and flamboyant DJ with an astounding knowledge and depth of
music, Iana Himnia knows exactly how to knock the socks off a crowd
without compromising her underground electronic roots while her work
outside the booth has gained her both the respect and admiration of her
