About Me

I was born in PHILADELPHIA, into the black music tradition offered by that town. But not only did I feel the music on the street, I was also lucky enough to have the influence in my own living room because my father was a professional musician of the first rank. Paul Curry, a jazz pianist-arranger-composer-conductor, toured extensively with his own quartet and devised and arranged for internationally famous tap dancer Gregory Hines. My father also played with most of the greats, including Sarah Vaughn and Ella Fitzgerald, both seminal influences on my own ambition to sing.Barcelona, my current home, might seem like a long way from a Philadelphia neighborhood but I am clear about my stance on race, music, and the US. I don’t believe in conflict. I believe in harmony, not only in music but in life.Having performed in many places and on many stages, recorded with many artists and on various labels, it is in recent years that I have found my own style and voice as a singer and composer, particularly in collaboration with the great jazz pianist from Barcelona, Jaume Vilaseca.Look out for my new album ’Unconditional Love’ in 2008, a sound in the NuSoulJazz mould: arrangements and piano, Jaume Vilaseca/bass, Joseph ’The Duke’ Roberts/drums, Cheryl Alleyne. And now that you’ve read the formal stuff get in touch and let’s get the talk flowin’ and the music down!SELECTED PERFORMANCESGran Casino (Barcelona) – with the Jaume Vilaseca quartet.
