About Me

MyGen Profile GeneratorABOUT DEA LI
When this spirited daughter of Italian immigrants steps on stage and reaches for the microphone, you don’t know whether your ears should be making eyes or the other way around. What is so fascinating about this woman? Obviously, the first thing that comes to mind is her voice. Gentle and soulful, she knows how to attract, seduce and caress the listener before suddenly spreading more energy than an atomic power plant!
There is no question that this petite lady with the powerful voice from Frankfurt is a matured singer despite her young years. But an excellent voice alone is not enough these days.
Apart from that particular “je ne sais quoi”, which Dea Li definitely possesses, she has passed through many different stages of rhythm and melodies.
She first discovered dance at the tender age of 5, quickly followed by singing a short while later. This led to a passionate relationship with music from her early childhood onwards. She bought her first vinyl record, "fade to grey" by Visage when she was 8 years old and her passion for electronic music was awakened. A short while later, she discovered the 60s, Jazz and Bossa Nova and couldn't get enough of Billie Holliday, Shirley Bassey,
Stan Getz, Gilberto and co. Her dream has always been to combine all of these elements.
From here, she has evolved step by step. She made an impression as a choreographer for music videos and avant-garde shows and became established in the Frankfurt music scene. She started singing backing vocals for Hip-Hop beats before developing into a sought-after studio singer and then went on to enrapture huge audiences as one of the leading vocalist of U96.The first single “Heaven” remained in the Top 5 for months and reached platinum level. This sensation catapulted Dea Li to international fame. Further hits such as
“Venus in Chains” and “Seven Wonders” followed, which sold just as successfully as the first album “Heaven”.
Today, Dea Li states that “it was the right time for me to take a break, despite my success”. She needed some space and time for herself. She wants to return to the music that awakened her passion.
A time full of inspirations is about to begin. She seeked for new challenges outside the music world, studies historical ethnology and celebrates first successes as an actress. In “Flowers for a Lady”, a short film that did very well at international festivals, she plays a spirited Italian lady.
A role that suits her to a T. The critics are spectacular. Not only for her acting talent, but also because the entire film is accompanied by her singing. The next film project promptly follows with “Zielgerade” After her excursion to the film business, the artist finds her way back to music.
A particularly productive era begins. She sings and writes the lyrics for the song “Metapop” for the second album “Liquid Beach” by the producers of Saafi Brothers. This is followed by further releases on the albums “it’s Five D”, and currently on the compilation Chill Lounge Cape Town Vol.2. – a project that is already represented in the Top Ten iTune Album Charts.
Despite all of these successful projects, Dea Li has not lost sight of her actual goal:
the production of her very own solo album. She has worked on songs, mixed different music styles with virtuosity and finally introduces her debut album “Hungry as a Hunter”.
A revelation! Words cannot describe this music. There is so much to discover in this album: electro, progressive dance beats, the sound of the 60’s, POP – everything comes together. The result is the essence of an artist who thinks outside the box. Continents merge into one; the past unites with the future. The music is multi-layered yet one. Dea Li gives us a glimpse of her soul with this album. And this glimpse is something very beautiful.
