Don't Shoot The Messinger

About Me

Producer, Songwriter, Multi-instrumentalist, Toronto native Adam Messinger has been immersed in the arts since a child. Starting at the piano at age five, he has proceeded to develop skills for almost every instrument that has crossed his path, including sax, bass, guitar, and percussion. After being enrolled in the Claude Watson School for the Arts program from grade 4 through to 13, he attended the music program at York University, Toronto where he was awarded the Oscar Peterson Scholarship for jazz studies two years consecutively. Having accumulated studio recording experience since his early days of high school, he has continually developed his own studio, now labeled Messinger Sounds. Applying his musical intuitiveness and substantial musical education, Adam has been on a quest to sonically push the limits of a smaller-scale studio. His creativity as a producer/engineer was evidently recognized with Juno Nominations in 2001 and 2006 for his work with the talented a cappella group Cadence (Frost Free / Twenty For One). Further outlining the cutting edge of the modern ‘vocal band’, Adam produced a full length CD with a cappella pioneers, The Nylons (Play On). In 2004, he co-produced the musical score for the well-received children’s series “Grandpa’s Garden” (PTV Productions). Over the last few years, he has done a lot of work with acclaimed songwriters Dan Hill and Jorgen Elofsson, as well as artists Nasri (Universal), Jacksoul (Sony/BMG), Manafest (Tooth&Nail/EMI), Ivana Santilli, Liz Rodrigues, Lisa Patterson, Moulann, and Melissa Bathory. He also recently wrote and produced on 2006 Canadian Idol winner Eva Avila's debut album (Sony/BMG). In addition to his studio work, Adam has found himself performing live alongside artists like Ashley MacIsaac, Devine Brown (Universal Music), Melanie Durrant (Motown), and Jarvis Church (Sony/BMG). Overall, Adam continues to apply his ‘big ears’ and extensive musicianship to a vast array of endeavors spanning from folk to rock to hip-hop, missing nothing in between.
