About Me

Begun during the late 90’s, Zip Records is a San Francisco based totally independent record label. The perks of being independent has allowed the Zip imprint to release a varied menu of genres. Like a proud parent, we can boast of at least having a hand in the process of the ever-maturing world of popular music. Whether rock, guitar pop, surf, punk, reggae, singer/songwriter, or whatever… it all fits on the label. The Zip lifestyle we’re selling is easy to understand. Our pitch is safe adventure; our name suggests a jolt and the artists on the label provide the kicks. Each release by Zip records is an adventure, with artists from far-flung Australia, Singapore, Sweden, Serbia, New York, California and many more world locations. The music is all accessible in the true sense of the word.Consisting primarily of pop and rock artists, Zip Records plays it somewhat safe, preferring artists with sparks of creativity but also musicians and songwriter fitting squarely within their genre. The thread which ties together the label’s releases may not be apparent at first glance, but at least from this vantage point, each title has a sense of place – geographically as well as musically. For 2007, Zip Records will continue to release a mélange of music. You are helpless to stop us. Our lineage of guitar pop will live on with the Perth (Australia) wunderkinds “The Chevelles”. The Nordic fetish is alive and well with forthcoming albums from Swedish pop sensations. What about the UK? How about a full length from electro pop royalty “Autons”? A coup for Zip, Autons are an accident waiting to happen. With no intention to convert guitar pop lovers to hip hop, sometimes an opportunity comes along that is too good to be true. In our own backyard of San Francisco live two geniuses who have captured the excitement and force of hip hop like few others. Entitled “The Package”, Namawu Records and Zip Records have collaborated to present production group “The Beatmites” debut album and the 18 tracks have humbly converted us to a genre that is more addictive than bubblegum music and almost as edgy.
