About Me

Hmmm...what to say?
I've never been very good at talking about myself. Perhaps that's why my resume looks like a piece of shit. Anyway, seeing as i'm not trying to sell my skills, wares or body on myspace, perhaps i should just suck it up and write something.
I'm a journalist, film critic and artist. I constantly narrate my life in my head and wish that i could finally get out of that perpetual state of foggy confusion that is being twenty-something. Consequently, i can't wait until i turn 30 so i have can a big birthday party where everyone buys me presents.
I have an absurd sense of humour, no coordination and the unfortunate pre-disposition to tripping up stairs, getting my heels stuck in cracks, or stumbling over thin air. These moments of embarrassment always occur in public places where people laugh, point and stare.
Likes: The sound of feet crunching on gravel, the smell of the 19th century, a woman's neck (even though I dislike the word neck...reminds me of a turkey), boxes full of art supplies, blank notebooks ready for ideas, sandy pathways carpeted with tree roots, the blackberry thicket of my childhood, the smell of dandelions when you squish them between your hands, neo-gothic architecture, Edwardian puffs, comic book nerds, ...
Dislikes: My co-worker for plastering the walls of our office with five identical posters that read: "Disneyland, the place where dreams come true", meat and over-cooked three veg, being treated like a princess, windcheaters, bad grammar and spelling, dirty sheets, people who treat their floor like a wardrobe, 40 and 50-something women who wear sundresses and raffia hats and carry their lunch to work in wicker baskets covered with chequered tea towels, excessive use of the phrase "God bless [insert person, place or thing here],People Who Use Capital Letters When They're Not Needed...

My Interests

Writing - I particularly like writing wacky little stories that make people laugh.

Drawing and painting - right now i am really into all elements of the circus, carnivals and sideshows in my art. Artists who inspire me are:

and all those artists who did cover designs for Vogue Magazine during the 1920s, 30s and 40s.

Acting - I used to be under the impression that i would grow up to be a famous actress but I obviously didn't have that going on. I rarely act these days, but for the occassional role in some TV ad or another.

Film - Love watching it and writing about it.

Reading - love to read anything that inspires me or takes me away from fucking stress.

Fashion - gotta have my outfit for each day planned the night before! I have a bit of a fetish for handbags and have over 50 of them. I love shopping for vintage clothes and accessories and can't wait until i can rent a bigger house so i can dedicate an entire room to my wardrobe. I'm also a bit of an expert on historical fashion.

Ok i am over writing detailed descriptions for each interest so here are the rest of my interests: music, web design, restoring antiques, interior design.

I'd like to meet:

I'm happy to meet anyone who doesn't fall under my "no thank you" list: No men who have rosy cheeks or wear windcheaters. No men who wear suit jackets with nothing underneath and think they look hot. No men or women who type like this: "Hey i fink ur so hot and gr8 2. I fink u n me shld go n get it on. Anywayz soz but i gtg so i will see ya l8r hunny." No born-again Christians who tell me they will pray for me, or have interests in re-enacting Christ's crucifiction.

I thought I'd post a vintage blog entry. Mostly because I'm too lazy to blog these days but also because my old stories are amusing (to me). This one was written way back in 2002. Cream [20/2/02] I do...

What would Thelma and Louise Do?

With all this talk in recent months of terrorists blowing whole planes to pieces via explosive devices in carry on luggage, I have begun to ponder air travel on a deeper level than I would normally al...
