This journey began here…At around seventeen years of age his father asked him “what do you want to do with your lifeâ€. He answered, “ Play drumsâ€.
It seemed like a logical decision at the time since his Father is a drummer and he had been surrounded by drums and music all his life! Needless to say his Father agreed with and supported his decision.
Starting drum lessons with his Father and Tim Burcham (who studied under Don Burrows at the Sydney conservatorium), he got put through his paces on a diverse program of exercises. Lessons would often go from latin to jazz to hand technique to independence and coordination. Through the next few years he studied and practiced for hours everyday. Playing in acts on the Central Coast of Australia he got to mix company with some of the country’s premier touring acts such as “The clouds†and “The Superjesus".
At the age of 22 he had started teaching drums to school children in two different private schools. Teaching 30 students per week was a great way to finally realise his dream of being a full time musician and also give something back to the drumming community.
Around this time he was also playing in the “Sarah Griesser Trio†who were gaining a lot of industry interest. One of the highlights of being in this group was when Gary Beers from INXS asked them to record 2 tracks at Mangrove Studios for a compilation album that was sent to the U.S for the American market.
At 24 he relocated to Sydney and started playing two to three nights a week on the Sydney covers circuit with “Deviliciousâ€, a Party band playing hits from the 60’s to current charts. This band also did two overseas contracts, one in Tianjin, China and the other sailing the Caribbean on a “Royal Caribbean†cruise ship “Sovereign of the Seasâ€.
On returning from the U.S he joined touring blues act “Mark Easton Limousine†and over the course of the next three years played in almost every conceivable live venue on the east coast of Australia between Cairns and Melbourne. In March 2006 the band recorded the album “Bandwagon†and in early 2007 the album got nominated for best new artist at the Goulburn Blues Festival.
In the last year his personal studies of sacred geometry have opened up the doors of odd time signatures and the melodic ostinato. This also opened up a more spiritual aspect to drumming and lifestyle.
Currently playing with Mark Easton Limousine!! Check out the music and join up to become a friend....
