About Me

Hi, my name's Dan, and I play the guitar... hahaAnyway, I started learning in 2000 I think, so 8 years ago, but it wasn't until around 2004 that I began taking a serious interest. I'd already been learning Piano for years, but now began to follow guitar as my main instrument of torture. Around that time I began to develop a taste for the harder rock, and eventually metal through my Uncle's copy of Metallica's 'S & M' live with the Symphony Orchestra, as well as a deep appreciation for the Classical disciplines.
The discovery of Dream Theater's 'Scenes From A Memory' was my first taste of really virtuostic metal, and opened up a whole new world with the introduction of Progressive-Metal. This lead to other similar bands such as Symphony X and Opeth, as well as to many virtuoso shred guitarists such as Steve Vai, Tony MacAlpine, Jason Becker and Marty Friedman.
The next step in my musical journey was when I began taking Classical Guitar lessons about halfway through 2005. I also began to appreciate Jazz and Fusion, which branched into the more extreme form of Tech-metal, with bands such as Spiral Architect, Spastic Ink, and guitarist Ron Jarzombek being the main influences there.
2007 I completed a Diploma in Classical Guitar at The Elder Conservatorium of Music in Adelaide, and I'm now working full-time at my family's music store 'Harrison Music' as well as teaching 10 or so students. I'm also looking at taking lessons in the rock/shred guitar department as well as becoming more involved in playing in bands of the progressive genre.
