Margarita

Margarita was born in Greece in 1981. She fell in love with music from a very young age. She had her first piano lesson at the age of 10. She studied classical piano, theory and harmony of music as well as arrangement, history of music and instrumentation at the National Conservatory of Athens and Madrigalios Music School. She also studied the saxophone under the guidance of the great musical director Ioannis Liakonis. Margaritas first experience as a professional musician happened when she joined the Pegasos Philarmonic Orchestra and later on the Pegasos big band as a saxophonist. These two ensembles gave her the opportunity to perform on festivals around Greece and Europe. She developed a great interest in jazz and jazz vocals in particular by listening many jazz musicians on those festivals. After graduating from the conservatory she took the decision to move to London in order to continue her music studies. Between 2003 and 2006, Margarita studied in an undergraduate level as a jazz vocalist in London College of Music and Media. She had the chance to work with exceptional teachers like Tina May, Trudy Kerr, Anita Wardell, Eddie Harvey, and Christopher Goldsack. During the same course Margarita also attended several classes of musical theatre singing and acting. Margarita has a huge variety of songs under her belt as her repertoire is consisted by jazz, latin and Brazilian standards as well as songs from around the world such as Spain, Cuba, France, Italy and Greece. The baptism of fire for Margarita was in 2005 when she sang with the Quintet of the British jazz legend Eddie Harvey. Since then she is performing in several London venues as well as venues in Greece and Italy. Margarita has played with a number of excellent musicians from London’s jazz scene such as Vasilis Xenopoulos, Greg Soussan, Eddie Harvey, Chris Nickols, Will Hyland, Will Bartlett, Phil Day, Tony Kinsey, Francesco Colgetto and many others.
