Me and my Mum

About Me

Myspace Graphics
Myspace Layouts Myspace LayoutsI am now 50...and anyone who already knows me is well aware of this fact! I got married in 1979 and I'm still married now (and to the same man!) which I think is a feat in itself, and so does my husband probably. I have two sons, one in the army and one who's an actor. I work at one of the newer Lakeland shops much to my Dad's excitment (he LOVES Lakeland and the Customer Services people are his friends) and also Front of House at a theatre. I really enjoy it and try not to be too rude to people, which is sometimes difficult. I also invigilate for exams at a local school which is brilliant because I can pretend I'm menacing and give the students long hard looks! I graduated two years ago with a BA (Hons) in Creative Studies in English and now I write short stories and Blogs about radom things that happen to me or occur to me or are just random! I live in a small cottage with a huge garden and spend a lot of time fretting about the gardening, the local wildlife and anything else I can think of, but generally I'm quite content with my life.

My Interests

Reading - most things. Writing, short stories and poetry (but only if I'm suffering some kind of angst at the time), and I'm about a third of the way into a novel. Thinking about exercising (I don't actually EVER do any, I just think about it). Having hissy fits, which I'm very good at. Looking after my girlies - my two Jack Russells, Molly and Pip. And until recently, Bruce our Lurcher, but he reached the end of his very long life and is only with us in doggie-spirit now. And Buddy, my son's Alsatian/Staffordshire cross...and my cat Lydia, who is cross because all this time she has been left out of my profile...and Paddy, my sister's cat! (Really, I run an animal sanctuary!) I also collect snow globes and have in excess of 50! And I'm very good at drinking red wine but I'm very bad at having hangovers.

I'd like to meet:

Anyone who has a story to tell...and anyone who hasn't.

Music:

I like music. I listen to all kinds from Indie to metal to classical. And I do like to find local bands...I love Ulysses (check them out on my top friends).

Movies:

Best film ever: Brief Encounter (well, most cried over film ever), and Casablanca. And now, of course, Sweeney Todd. Scariest film; Silence of the Lambs, most misunderstood film (by me); The Matrix. Best short film - Hide. Film most badly behaved in; Casino Royale (it's such a BOYS film!)

Television:

Daytime TV is my downfall. It's such rubbish but I can't help watching it when I'm home.

Books:

Favourite and most read book (at least four or five times a year) TO KILL A MOCKING BIRD. I prefer Ernest Hemingway to John Steinbeck although I've read and re-read Of Mice and Men. Graham Greene. Joyce Carol Oates. Anything by Marian Keyes and Carole Matthews. Anything by Carol Shields, Anne Tyler, Nick Hornby... and anything else I can get my hands on. I panic if I don't have at least three un-read books ahead of me! I like poetry, especially Raymond Carver and Robert Frost, and I like to read song lyrics!

Heroes:

People who do the 'right thing'. And my Dad

What I really wanted to call it was...

...The Dead Dog Blog and the Wake Cake, but that might have made it sound as though I didn’t care that we have just lost our Lurcher, Bruce, and I do.  A lot. He was at least 15, looked as ...
