"Sara Littlefield has a real individual voice on the tenor, her sound is packed with warmth and soulfulness in the real sense, but with all of the daring and unexpected turn of phrase of any great improviser." - Julian Siegel.
"Sara plays her father's music with evident resect and affection - great motivations for any artist. Her charm makes contact with listeners both when she solos and introduces numbers. A promising band playing accessible, melodic music."-Wakefield Jazz, Chris De Saram.
"In a proliferation of female saxophonists Sara Littlefield is another one with a bright future. She has a light flexible sound with a swinging feel."- Grimsby Jazz.
“Mix a great technique with inventive soloing, warm personality and an attractive, varied repertoire - and you have Sara Littlefield. We loved her in Scarborough!†20.07.08 Mike Gordon, Scarborough Jazz.
This quartet was formed in Sept 06 to celebrate to music of Sara’s late father, the great pianist and composer, Ron Littlefield. The tunes are original compositions written in an impressionistic vein ranging from lilting waltzes with angular melodies to richly harmonic pieces with unexpected resolutions.
Sara had a musical upbringing and was greatly influenced by her father.
She studied tenor saxophone at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Don Rendell and also had lessons with Tim Garland, Tim Whitehead and Julian Siegel. When living in the south she performed in many of the London venues and clubs and also across the whole region. She has played at Jazz festivals such as Ealing and Manchester and often performed with her father. They both help set up the club “Jagz†in Ascot, Berkshire, forming the house band as well as promoting.
She is greatly inspired by players like Dewey Redman, Keith Jarrett, Joe Lovano, Sonny Rollins ,Steve Swallow,Monk, Astor Piazzolla, Joe Henderson and so on and so on.....
