About Me

Hmm... My mum used to tell me that my hobby was "having hobbies". She probably thinks the same thing now, but she's given up telling me so...

I spend too much time worrying, mostly about whether I've accidentally upset or annoyed somebody or everybody. I don't like to upset or annoy anybody!!

Slideshow: Tom Russell and Michael Martin in Finland, March 2007: ..

I hate being photographed: being the one with the camera is often a good way to avoid it! That's why I couldn't find a good picture of myself to post here (that's my excuse, anyway).

I like to take candid photographs of people: I very rarely take posed photographs, unless the subjects are under ten years old! I put the camera to my eye, try to blend into the background and wait as long as it takes for the right moment: the "decisive moment", as Henri Cartier-Bresson called it. Not that I'm about to compare myself with him...

My Interests

Music, photography, music, photography, music, photography. Photographing musicians...

My photography website can be found at www.susancane.co.uk - it's not usually as up to date as I want it to be, but I try...

When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple
Reading, writing, knitting (yes, really), purple, family history research (I am descended from paupers, it seems), Roots on the Rails , procrastinating, black and white photographs, worrying, salt and vinegar crisps, the number 8,...

Music:

Lots!

Movies:

I don't really bother with most movies. But I love 84 Charing Cross Road because it's about two of my favourite things: letters and books. I also love really old black and white films like Brief Encounter and The Fallen Idol. They need to be watched on gloomy, rainy Sunday afternoons.

Books:

I got really behind with updating the list of books I've read... so I've deleted it!

But... Yes, I like books!

Heroes:

Photography: Henri Cartier-Bresson, Dorothea Lange...

Postcard from Bath (it's supposed to be ironic!)
