Alvechurch Community Samba Band

About Me

Beginning life as "the band with no name" in 1996, Banda Sem Nome was formed to develope live music within the local community of Alvechurch and its surrounding areas. We now play at several events such as the Alvechurch Alight Festival, Astwood Bank Carnival and Birminghams Arts Fest, and in recent years for some performances we have been linked with Simones School of Dance (see our video), At present our musical director is Matthew Green (for more info see matts blog) We welcome invitations to events both local and worldwide.Anyone is welcome to join Banda Sem Nome, whether or not they have had any previous musical knowledge, enthusiasm and willingness to join in are the most important things. We own several instruments, so don’t be put off coming if you haven’t got one. We meet at Alvechurch sports and leisure club Radford Rd on the second and fourth Thursday of the month, contact us if you wish to come along.Visit our website for more details.»-(¯`v´¯)-» Design your MySpace with MyLook «-(¯`v´¯)-«

Sounds Like:-CaixasThe snare drum can roll as well as providing a regular beat. You need to be quick with the sticks to play this one.-AgogoBellsThese add a musical hint to the thrumming rhythm. With lighter melodies, the bells provide tuneful accompaniment.-SurdoWe use these big drums in two sizes: high (segundo) and low (Primeiro). They are the bass of the rhythms, keeping time.-TamborimA high-pitched rat-a-tat-tat sound that offers complicated rhythms. These players give the band a whirl of movement.-RepeniquesA versatile instrument that combines hands and sticks to give a striking sound. Also a popular lead instrument.-OtherThis section includes a whole range of other percussion e.g. Vibraslap, Chocolho, Ganza, Claves, shekere, Cuica, Pandeiro, Whistles, Triangles, Cow Bells, Bongos, Berimbau, Caxixiand more. They give a great balance to the rhythms adding colour and texture to the great sound
