A community samba band for the people of Bath, Samba Sulis was started by Trish Verrecchia and it is now led by Robbie and Jess Verrecchia sometimes assisted by Jackson Lapes or Sam Pyne. Samba Sulis run workshops for young children, students & professional people i.e. - team building activies. The band can also be seen playing at private parties, festivals, weddings and charity events.
Samba music originates from Brazil, it features influences from the African slaves brought over to Brazil. Our band features percussion instruments typical to a Brazilian Bateria (samba group). These are; Surdos, Caixas, Repiniques, Tambourim, Ganza, Chocalho, Agogo & Timba.
Our repitoire includes a number of traditional Brazilian rhythms such as; Samba Batucada, Samba Reggae, Maracatu & Afoxé. Along with some of our own numbers such as; Hip-Hop, Drum & Bass & Samba-Funk.
