About Me

Samba from York! Born out of a fusion of Mendigo Surdo (a samba band from the University of York) and students from York St. John University and others from the musical community in York.

We can play a wide range of drumming music, in contrasting styles and genres. We have played many varying events and functions in the past, and would love to do more and more. We are very flexible and can play for pretty much any length of time necessary. We also incorporate a samba horn section when required.

Influences: The traditional music of Brazil, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Africa, India and Jamaica. Also more contemporary influences such as Drum & Bass, Dancehall and the London Grime scene.
Sounds Like: The Rio Carnival condensed into 25 people.... with face paints and big smiles.
