Calil West, is a Musical Director, Filmmaker, Producer, Composer, Singer/Songwriter, and Vocal Coach.Calil West, has been producing projects since 1983, and has been creating and orchestrating musical arrangements and scores since he was a child.As a child prodigy, he started to learn to play the piano at the tender age of 7. He directed his first album-recording choir with the internationally acclaimed, Donald Vails & The Salvation Corporation, consisting of over 300 members at the age of 13. Skipping several grades through school, he was the youngest member of his high school graduating class, graduating high school at the tender age of 15. As the youngest member of his college freshman class, he was offered several college scholarships. After which, he went on to be the Assistant Director of the Georgetown University Gospel Choir at the prestigious, Georgetown University, in Washington, DC. Calil worked for 5 years under the direction of Gospel Music Workshop recording artist, Sylstea Sledge. This opportunity helped him to broaden his skill as a musician and a musical director as the average choir attendance was between 120-250 students. He has personally managed, produced, vocal coached, and artistically developed over nine different recording artists at one time, four of whom currently have flourishing careers in NYC on Broadway in theatre, and one artist who is now currently working in film in Los Angeles.Most recent accomplishments were a vocal arrangement credit on the feature film, "The Visit", with Felicia Rashaad and Billy Dee Williams. He scored all the background vocals, coaching the vocalists as well as singing three of the seven parts on the music track as well. He has also recently worked with Hollywood actor, Keith David. Keith David starred in the Oscar winning film "Crash". He was also in the "Chronicles of Riddick". Calil West also has written and arranged many musical scores for stage productions and independant film projects.As a vocalist, Calil West has a documented range of over 5 octaves and can sing multiple voice parts. He has been penned a 'genius' in the area of vocal arrangement. Calil is currently working simultaneously on his album project and writing for a television show. Calil is currently producing and directing a documentary whose subject matter highlights an interesting facet of the music industry.The Upcoming Album project, "The Lockout Experience", will feature a variety of uniquely gifted extremely talented vocalists and musicians who are from all over to sing and minister all original compositions written and arranged by Calil West. Most vocalist on the project are friends of his. And, some are those who have a heart for the project and just want to help. Most are major recording artists. Some of which are currently Billboard listed.
