About Me

The Gillioz Theatre was built in 1926 by M.E. Gillioz, a road and bridge builder from Monett, MO. The 1,100 seat theater opened on October 11th, 1926 with a variety of performances. The theater has been the site of several world premieres, including "The Winning Team" in 1952, starring Ronald Reagan and Doris Day. Reagan was in attendence as well as President Harry S. Truman. The Gillioz closed in 1980 and sat vacant for ten years. In 1990, the theater was purchased by the Springfield Landmarks Preservation Trust, and the restoration would soon begin. On October 13th, 2006, Encore 2006 kicked off with MSU's presentation of "Vaudueville!". Encore 2006 was a week of events that formally reopened the this historic theater. There are more events to come! The theater will be able to house live performances (concerts, plays, etc...), movies (film festivals and things like that), weddings, or other presentations.Check out the Gillioz Theatre website: www.gillioz.orgMySpace Layouts

My Interests

HERE IS A LIST OF UPCOMING EVENTS IN JULY AT THE GILLIOZ THEATRE!

I'd like to meet:

Well, this theater has met so many people, like the Weaver Brothers and Elvira (an internationally famous vaudeville group from Springfield), future president Ronald Reagan (a few times!), and President Harry S. Truman. Elvis Preseley has even seen a movie here!!!But still, there's so many people that I hope will visit the theater. I hope that we will be able to host concerts for new and upcoming musicians and artists, as well as host world premieres again for future Hollywood celeberties.

Music:

HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE THERE!!! On April 10, 2007, Jeremy Larson performed a concert that was recorded live for a DVD. It'll be available this fall! On June 9th, 2007, Candy Coburn played the Gillioz Theatre. Here is a clip about Candy along with clips from her show at the Gillioz and interviews that were included in the live broadcast of her concert on the Ozarks CW.

Movies:

SUMMER BASEBALL FILM SERIES "THE NATURAL" -- July 12 "FIELD OF DREAMS" -- JULY 19 ALL FILMS WILL BE SHOWING AT 3PM. ADMISSION WILL BE $5. HOWEVER, IF YOU SHOW US YOUR TICKET TO THAT DAY'S SPRINGFIELD CARDINALS' GAME, WE WILL DEDUCT $2 OFF THE TICKET PRICE! A few months ago, with the help of Dan Chilton and The Moxie Cinema, we now have a 35mm Projector at the Gillioz Theatre!

Books:

The Gillioz "Theatre Beautiful": Remembering Springfield's Theatre History, 1926-2006 -Edited by James S. BaumlinThe Front Row: Missouri's Grand Theatres -Mary Bagley

This is a small list of all those who have contributed their time, money, and effort to the Gillioz. But there is also all of those who saw movies here as kids and teens, without them this project would not have been possible. Thanks to all of those who have help make this project complete!
