The Gillioz Theatre was built in 1926 by M.E. Gillioz, a road and bridge builder from Monett, MO. The 1,100 seat theater opened on October 11th, 1926 with a variety of performances.The theater has been the site of several world premieres, including "The Winning Team" in 1952, starring Ronald Reagan and Doris Day. Reagan was in attendence as well as President Harry S. Truman.The Gillioz closed in 1980 and sat vacant for ten years. In 1990, the theater was purchased by the Springfield Landmarks Preservation Trust, and the restoration would soon begin.On October 13th, 2006, Encore 2006 kicked off with MSU's presentation of "Vaudueville!". Encore 2006 was a week of events that formally reopened the this historic theater.
