Billy H has always messed about with music, even as a toddler he has pictures taken by his mum and dad of him with headphones on and a Hi Fidelity turntable and tape deck in front of him.
“I remember recording the chart show on Sundays and then trying to make mega mix tapes by dubbing two tapes together, I probably made a few love tapes for girls as I got to about ten years old…that was the best way to get a girls attention in those days!â€Billy is still getting attention by mixing records together but things have evolved since then, although the essence is still the same…playing music that he has a passion for and delivering that feeling to others. Many different musical influences have shaped and defined Billy’s tastes, with a passion for making packed dance floors really move and an understanding of the crowd Billy conducts and creates a musical journey for the masses.“I have no interest in playing Electro or Tech House…to me it is all House music and there is no disguising a brilliant House track, whether its classed as progressive or tribal, if it has feeling and lots of movement…it will work!â€Billy started his love affair with music at a very early age, “I had a life changing moment when my older cousin played me the Electro One compilation, I could not believe it, the sound was so different with vocoders, synths and rapping..It was an instant feeling of understandingâ€
From then on the obsession had begun, collecting the entire Electro collection including some moody U.K versions! Billy would sit up all night recording the Capital Rap Show….before Westwood became a comedian… and a love of Hip Hop was borne. As time moved forward Billy started finding a sound he had been missing from the early Electro days, Colin Dale had a show on Kiss F.M, playing House in many different forms including early Drum & Bass cross over sounds, this was the catalyst onto the Drum & Bass circuit for Billy.
“At the time everyone seemed to be a Drum & Bass D.J!†It was tough in the late 80’s early 90’s trying to break through as a D&B D.J, the scene was flooded with wanna be’s…
“I have a lot of people to thank for giving me a chance to play D&B, in particular some local record shops ( Vinyl Rhythm & Armageddon Records ) these shops are a dying breed and they are so much more than just a shop…these places were social hotspots, you could find out who was rolling with who and where the next best party was going to be…oh and there was the latest release and promos of course!â€After a long time enjoying the Drum & Bass circuit with many residencies and the chance to work with and play along side the likes of Fabio & Grooverider, Mickey Finn, Randall, Hype, MC GQ, Bukem & Conrad, and involvement in loads of different pirate radio stations, the scene eventually lost its edge that Billy enjoyed.
“The D&B scene seemed to pick up such momentum in such a short space of time it eventually split into jungle and hardcoreâ€For a while Billy stayed away from D.J performances and although still listening and keeping an eye on the D&B scene he had stopped playing out all together.
The last six years have been very exciting for Billy.H.
With a love of all House music in its many different forms.“I kind of went back to that time when I first found the Electro compilations, Breakbeat has always been a foundation of my musical tastes and I fell in love with House music again when I started to discover breaks incorporated within Houseâ€This has evolved into all types of good House music, in a way it all comes around again, with heavy electro influences within lots of House music today.Today you will find Billy.H playing an excellent blend of all House music..moving a packed venue to the sound that everyone with taste loves.
Having played at many different venues in different country’s and time zones, Billy is not in it for fame and fortune but just for the simple love of House music. The forthcoming year promises to be full of good sounds with studio time booked and tracks on their way, “I have been very lucky to be able to work with the likes of James Lavelle, The Stanton Warriors, The Scratch Perverts, Gilles Peterson and many others over the past few years so im hoping that their positive influences will rub off on me!â€For any bookings or info please message Billy on this site or email: [email protected] MORE INFO AND DJ BOOKINGS PLEASE EMAIL [email protected] CHECK THIS PAGE REGULARLY FOR DJ DATES AND PARTYS.
