About Me

Out of the Gloom started in May 2006 following promoter Sally Squiggles having conversations with DJs about records she had found when routing in their collection, that would never fit into one of their sets on a Friday or Saturday night. Originally at Kro Bar on Oxford Road and later at Cord in Manchester's Northern Quarter, Out of the Gloom recently moved to its current home Dry Bar. Every Sunday an eclectic and chilled journey through music takes place. Resident spinners Chris E & Steph Holland are joined weekly by an amalgam of guest DJs who embrace the 'no music policy / music policy' and enjoy playing records a little more down-tempo than they get to spin on a Friday or Saturday night. Expect techno DJs playing funk, hip hop DJs playing pop, house DJs playing reggae and anything in between!! Previous guests have included Iain Taylor (Rejekts), Andro (Tribal Sessions, Naive Melody), Marco Giannini (The Warehouse Project), FraidSo and numerous resident DJs from some of Manchester's finest club nights including; Development, Stylus, Phuture, Naive Melody, Robot Soap, Niteshift and Northen Disco Inc. The residents have made guest appearances at numerous club nights, proving they can play more up-tempo, banging beats as well as their regular eclectic, chilled sets every Sunday. The residennts have appeared at; Sankeys Soap, Audio Boutique, D:Percussion, Kill the Disco, Robot Soap, Niteshift, Stylus, Steady Movement, Double Dutch, Mancusonights, Waves For Shelter, Resonance, Nish Nash Nosh and Lean. They also did a guest show for Groovement Manchester on Unity Radio. In March 2007, alongside Good Housekeepin a one-off showcase took place at the iconic Urbis, Manchester. The night was a massive success and was a great platform for the more uptempo side of Out of the Gloom. Since then, Out of the Gloom have become involved in Shoot Speed Social which takes place every Friday at Jabez Clegg, on rotation some of Manchesters finest DJ talent play good-time tunes of many genres. Manchester legend, Dave Haslam invited Out of the Gloom to host room 2 of his Sweet Sensation night at new venue, Moho Live on December 15th, a great honor and something to look forward to! Out of the Gloom have lots of plans for the coming months - watch this space!

Sounds Like: Down-tempo, on any given nights expect to hear house, funk, electronica, disco, jazz, soul, latin - we pride ourselves on having a "no-music policy music policy" as long as it's fairly down-tempo anything goes.
