Hi,
I am a singer/songwriter, Voice and Movement Therapist and Body Psychotherapist. I also teach singing. I have 2 albums of my own songs, made by myself with the help of musician friends (I hired an engineer, Roger Asquew, and co-produced it with him) and I hope to find a way to put some of my music here for anyone’s listening pleasure. I am a musician and music is where my heart has always been, an expression of love and joy as well as the sorrows we all share as humans. I started playing guitar when I was 13 and after learning the 'House of the Rising sun' (taught to me by my cousin) I found that all I wanted to do was write songs. It is only recently that I have put some songs onto disc in a format that I can share with others. I have a long list of influences in my life starting with Janis Joplin and Joni Mitchell who were my first loves. One for her outrageousness and the pain that she expressed so beautifully and the other for her heart and the beauty of her prose and her art. I guess the people you admire are a mirror of what you most want to find in yourself. I remember seeing a very young Lulu on the Ed Sullivan show and thinking how wonderful her voice was and how full of life. I guess the major influence in my life was my first love and husband (though that was a long time ago when we were both very young and for just a few years) Robi Gladwell. We have been good friends for over 30 years and he is my oldest friend. He is an extraordinary guitar player who loves to share music with all who are interested. He loves others to be supported to learn. Like me he gets great pleasure from others coming into their own creativity. It is a joy to find that someone has taken what you have to offer and made it their own moving on to express themselves as the person they are. Robert Gladwell is the guitarist with Steve Harley and is also Doctor Robert from Guitarist Magazine. He has traveled the world as the guitarist for many well know artists and is a demonstrator for Gibson Guitars. He has his own website where you can read about his many talents. The next greatest influence in my musical life has been the blues and singing the blues. B.B. King and singing 'Sweet Little Angel' started me off.
On the tracks "Ghosts" and "Blue Pillows" you will hear the Kora played by Ravi who you will find in many places on myspace and I recommend finding him. Ghosts was laid down in one take with Ravi adding the Indian Flute and a bit of Jembe afterwards. My voice was influenced by the magic of his playing and it is one of my favourite tracks.
This profile will grow slowly. I will add to it as I find time and I hope that I will find a way to share my music. I am not talented on the Computer but will ask friends and try to find help with this. Warm wishes to all... Sheri
