:: Café Assassin ::
12 January 2009 / Promo / Satellite Records / 11 Trk CDR
By JAIt always worries me when an unsigned band put together an album of some length and in this case this is technically a demo LP. So therefore it’s far too long to begin with. It is however a competent stab and whilst it’s patently obvious that Café Assassin are gentlemen of a certain age, there’s still a sparkle to their meat and two veg indie rock. I’m the kid of person that has trouble playing through a whole Sterophonics or Razorlight record (I’m not on my own I’m sure), but there’s some strange (possibly unhealthy) attraction to “Up Yer House†– their rock stylings have an American slant which allows their mature perspective to work, but I can’t see myself wanting to see this live; yet on record it’s a pretty decent all round effort.MMM
Sounds Like: Heavy Mellow. You saw it here first. Remember this.
Record Label: Rough Trade showed an interest but no money.
