About Me

Welcome to Southern Discomfort and the year 2007. We are left with a funny feeling while delivering another installation of our local Festival in the southern end of the Norwegian Kingdom. After some narrow manouvers in bands and impressions since the start in 2002, there is nothing left to state than the fact that the festival is indeed alive. Despite the unwillingly break in 2005, there has been no lack of will to put our necks out beneath the axe last year, luckily without being decapitated. It seems that our audience is looking forward to more noise this year.Organising a Festival requires the ability to keep one?s head cool while adding together inspiration and crew in making two days of bands, music, logistics, planning and everything else a festival needs to be complete. With our experienced crew, we feel that we are on top of the technical and practical aspects of the production, but we still have a few aspects that need our attention. With this in mind, we have included even more experts in some new fields, who are willing to spend their spare time, using their talents for building safer ground for SDC, so that we may keep bringing the pleasure of metal our audience, thus helping us grow, and become even more visible. The more visible we are, the easier it is to cooporate with the local culrural authorities, cooperation that may lead to even bigger experiences in the future. Kristiansand was elected the Cultural County of the year in Norway in 2007, and Southern Discomfort was put forward as one out of five reasons for the desition. This means a lot for a small sized festival. We need all the support we can get, for having courage enough to be moving around in the local Festival environment, and we need to prove our right of existance, both towards the politicians, and towards our audience, in order to be taken seriously. As it seems, this year might be our last season of micro finance, as our dear Cultiva has sent us signals that they want to support our work in 2008. They sadly did not have budgets to support us this year, and we can only appeal to all of you who have supported us to keep backing us up in the final battle for existance, until 2008. The lineup this year has the usual mix of interesting local and regional bands, and should contain something for everyone to enjoy. We are hoping for creative and constructive feedback from our audience, in order to get a feeling about what kind of ideas and thoughts are moving around out there. We wish to become something everyone may look to in pride, a Festival worth saluting, praising, and hallusinations during our two days of Metal Mayhem.
