Justice, Like Lightning...

About Me

ABOUT TONY ISABELLA"Tony Isabella has been a comics fan since childhood. In 1972, that passion drew him to Marvel Comics where he began his career as an assistant to Stan Lee and Roy Thomas."In his 35-year career, Isabella has been an editor for both Marvel and DC. He was a pioneer in the comic book retail business as a specialty store owner and distributor. He created BLACK LIGHTNING, the first black hero to star in his own DC title. A Black Lightning action figure, part of Kenner's Total Justice line, is one of his most treasured possession and much cooler than all other action figures."Isabella's body of work is diverse. A partial list of his credits would include: Captain America, Daredevil, Doc Savage, Donald Duck, Dracula, Ghost Rider, Hawkman, Luke Cage, Mickey Mouse, Satan's Six, Spider-Man, Star Trek, Star Wars, Superman, Uncle Scrooge, and Young Love. With Bob Ingersoll, he has written two novels: CAPTAIN AMERICA: LIBERTY'S TORCH and STAR TREK: THE CASE OF THE COLONIST'S CORPSE."He’s a contributing editor and featured reviewer for COMICS BUYER'S GUIDE. His humorous and thoughtful "Tony's Tips!" is a favorite among fans and industry professionals alike."In 1995, he wrote the first eight issues of a new series starring Black Lightning. This series was greeted with enthusiastic praise. Black Lightning 5 by Isabella and Eddy Newell won the CompuServe Comics Forum award for best single comic book."In June of 1997, the nigh-daily "TONY'S ONLINE TIPS" debuted on the World Famous Comics site. Isabella's 2000-plus columns are believed to be an online record in the comics community."Isabella continues to work and write for a variety of clients as well as developing new projects. Isabella, his wife Barbara, and children Eddie and Kelly reside in Medina, Ohio."

My Interests

my family and especially my kids, social issues (gettin' my liberal on), comic books of all kinds, comics conventions (not that I get to many of them these days), baseball, basketball, volleyball, and all the friends I've made during my career in comics.

Movies:

The Quiet Man, It's Always Fair Weather, Godzilla, Gorgo, The Valley of Gwangi, King Kong, Footlight Parade, The Producers, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Them!, the "Maisie" movies from the 1940s, The Goodbye Girl, The Odd Couple, Tremors, and too many others to mention. I love giant monsters, musical comedies, and Neil Simon.

Television:

The Daily Show, Extreme Makeover Home Edition, Cold Case, Deadwood, Two and a Half Men, CSI: Miami, The Colbert Report, Veronica Mars, Rescue Me, My Name Is Earl, Babylon 5, and, if they ever start putting Hill Street Blues on DVD (or NYPD Blue past the two seasons already released), I am *so* there!

Books:

My favorite non-comics writers are (alphabetical order) Dave Barry, Max Allan Collins, Harlan Ellison, Stephen King, William Shakespeare, and Neil Simon...though three of the above have written comics. Too many favorite comics writers to name, but I still enjoy all kinds of comics...from all ages comics like those featuring Walt Disney characters to super-heroes to indy to manga.

Heroes:

Kelly, Giselle, and Eddie.
