The 7 Printmakers return to the Arts Forum one year on with some new and exciting work developed from the themes of last year.
Margaret Thomson’s new hand pulled monoprints are inspired by the landscape and explored through abstract form in direct and innovative manner. George Mundell has built on his obsession with Film Noir to produce a group of figurative prints revealing a greater depth of visual and psychological imagery, whilst Pat Bennett’s ‘Ghost’ series explores the insubstantial and complex nature of what lies beneath the surface. Linda Genower‘s exploration of abstract form and colour has developed into a sophisticated and intricate matrix of vibrant colour and perspective, layer upon layer.
Jane Beecham’s prints, inspired by mainly watery themes, such as rock pools and the deeps of the sea are intensified both tonally and texturally by the addition of carborundum to her inks. This has produced a series of intense and enigmatic monochrome works. Derek Treacher, using screen printing techniques has made a series of strong and vibrant pieces, inspired by urban architecture and his own photographic imagery. Nigel Plumb has begun deconstructing and miniaturising his complex prints, reforming them and adding text reflecting his anxieties about aspects of contemporary life. He also uses multiple imagery in order to produce larger prints.
